Nothing more pathetic than not having a draw for the gold cup .... and the groups are made at their own discretion !

How is an ineligible player even allowed by CONCACAF to be named to an official roster?? I mostly feel bad for other 3rd place teams El Salvador and Martinique, who this really screws.

It's BS, all bias aside say they both end up with 4 pts, Honduras has more differential over ES because of a forteit.

    CONCACAF makes no sense.

In the 2007 Gold Cup, former French international Jocelyn Angloma played for Guadeloupe.

Somebody said that CONCACAF changed from using their own eligibility rules to FIFA's eligibilty rules. I'm not defending CONCACAF or French Guiana. I'm just providing an explanation.

Martinique and El Salvador could finish in any position. They could only finish last if Nicaragua beats USA or Curacao beats Mexico, but it's hypothetically possible.

No teams could finish third and be better than Honduras so, sadly, Catrachos will take part in quarters.

The main problem is CONCACAF having waited until the eve of this tournament to let FG know Malouda was ineligible to play.

On another note: for anyone interested, I decided to have a go on Twitter at David Faitelson's latest pendejada:

I am aware this is like USA C team, but what they are showing is piss poor.

Aw, I jinxed Nicaragua. Goal after I wrote this post. BTW, it's unbelievable that this is their first-ever meeting.

Not really - that's by design, with CONCACAF staggering WCQ to weed out the minnows early. Consider: the US enter WCQ in the semifinal round, and Nicaragua have never made it that far.

Here are all the teams USA has played WCQs against:

For the first time in qualifying for World Cup 1986 or earlier:

    Mexico
    Cuba
    Haiti
    Canada
    Honduras
    Bermuda

For the first time in qualifying for World Cup 1990 (which started USA's qualification streak) or later with the first World Cup the teams played in qualifying:

    Costa Rica (1990)
    Trinidad and Tobago (1990)
    Guatemala (1990)
    El Salvador (1990)
    Jamaica (1998)
    Barbados (2002)
Grenada (2006 when every team started before the Semifinals)
    Panama (2006)
    Antigua and Barbuda (2014)
St. Vincent and the Grenadines (2018)

USA has played 16 of the other 34 CONCACAF teams that can play WCQs including 9 out of 25 CFU teams.

Lmfao! A few years ago, CONCACAF was talking about the so called ''Increased interest'' shown for the Gold Cup...And yet as per every edition, lots of the matches played have had lots empty seats...This ''showpiece event'' doesn't feel like one as shown by the laughable attendance figures outside of Mexico and the US...

Honduras bring in the fans as well (outside of Frisco). And maybe they meant interest from potential host cities?

The worst part though, is that Concacaf is not even serious on its own set of rules, as Malouda wasn't the only player ineligible to play for another team, as he was cap-tied to the France National Team.

For the case of Martinique, also a french over-seas department and not a FIFA member, they also had in their roster players whom had already played and therefore are cap-tied for the France National Team, whom also have played in this tournament (both being starters as well), and in their case, their team wasn't sanctioned by declaring their matches as forfait.

This is the case of players, Kevin Olimpa (6 caps for the French U-21 National Team) and Steeven Langil (2 caps for the French U-21 National Team), whom have never filed the one time switch to play for another team. And let me remind you that for FIFA, the U-21 level is not a youth level category (only exists as such, for Uefa). In the case of Langil, he even scored a goal vs. Nicaragua in this tournament.

Can they file for a one time switch if the team they're switching to isn't a member of FIFA?

I thought Malouda wasn't on the preliminary roster? Which also lead to the DQ.

That's the weird thing: he was, then he was on the final roster as well, and all anyone knew until July 6 was that he was good to play.

    Nope.

To file the one time switch, must be to another FIFA member.

Another curious case in this clown show known as the Gold cup :
Strictly speaking, the US player Cristian Roldan is still not cap-tied to the US, as he only has played for the US senior team vs. Martinique. As Martinique is not a FIFA member, playing against them doesn't cap-tie anyone. And since he was replaced in the US roster going to the next stages of this tournament (an issue that can happen only in Concacrap, where teams are allowed to replace up to 6 players of their roster, which is what the US recently did), he will not get cap-tied yet.

At the moment being, he can still play and get cap-tied for either, the US (where he was born), Guatemala or El Salvador (through both of his parents).....:p

Hmmmm.. Kinda stupid. I remember the old rule was.. If Malouda went five years without playing for France NT then he was eligible to represent the over seas department like David Sommeil.

His last match playing for France was played the 23 of June 2012, which means he has had exactly 5 years since then, before the Golden clown cup started.

Same principle allowed Julien Faubert (ex-Real Madrid...wait, really? Wow, really :ROFLMAO:) to play with Martinique in 2013...

Yes, but I was thinking like it's a small confederation (considering that fair part are small islands that rarely play friendlies and those are knocked out of WCQ in early stages) so they had to play once. But I was wrong. :D

CONCACAF usually omit enforcing this one time switch thing properly.

As an example, Manuel Rosas, defender of the current Nicaragua NT, is Mexican. He started to play in Nicaraguan League (Real Esteli) in july of 2010 and managed to get in january of 2013 both a Nicaraguan passport and a call to "pinoleros" to play in Copa Centroamericana of 2013 and 2014, that served as qualifiers for GC 2013 and GC 2015 (and Centenario), respectively. Meaning that he has not complied with the FIFA rule of five years of playing in your new association before being allowed to switch to aforementioned FA.
