I heard Hutch wasn't 100% and still hurt. Probably best for him to fully recover for the next UEFA Champions League campaign with Besiktas.
He could be more efficient but Larin is still third on the all time Canadian scoring list for active players (behind Ricketts and Simeon Jackson).
As others noted, seems like Canada is trying to be a faster team capable of overwhelming weaker teams with constant pressure and offensive relentlessness while fast enough to catch stronger teams off guard on the counter attack. Bernier stabilize the midfield with a defensive mindset. Looks promising
If nothing else, we'll have a team that's more enjoyable to watch than the defensive style Floro had us going with at the last Gold Cup.
Another reason Zambrano went with a younger squad. When they play Curacao, it's was plain old defensive Canada...boring and playing to not lose, not to win. Once Zambrano subbed in Davies, Jackson Hamel, the team was completely different. They were relentlessly attacking curacao and that's Zambrano philosophy, mental toughness and offense. However, you need speed and we saw that during the second half of that game. Curacao was lucky to not lose worse than 2-1 and they are the reigning CFU Champions, so we did beat a good team. At only 22, Samuel Pierre from my hometown of Repentigny is an absolute beast at midfield. By far the most physical guy we have. Claims were made that some La Liga clubs are looking at him.
I assume you mean Piette? He's definitely one of my favourites of the younger players. Always a fire in his eyes.
The Globe and Mail now reporting that Canada will call Larin to the knock out phase (assuming, of course, that we get there).
I like Zambrano's confidence. We should be too much for French Guyana as we beat Curacao, the CFU champions
Looking for a good result tonight against French Guiana. I'd like to say 2-0 but I'm going to go with 2-1 just because of opening game jitters.
That was a friendly. It seems in actual competition Canada suffers a lack of confidence and chokes. I expect a 0-0 score and more handwringing. They really need to borrow the CWNT's sports psychologist.
We have a new manager and one who is more offensive minded and understands the Latin American style (not much use tonight but will be more imperative against Honduras and Costa Rica). Sounds good on paper at least but we'll see how it actually plays out. Let's just hope the FG doesn't do to us what Martinique did to us in 2013.
^ I really think the NT has turned the corner. I'm not saying we're at a level where we are going to win everything and qualify for every World Cup. I do think, however, that we've reached the stage where we will start winning the games we should win and stealing points in games that are above our heads. This instead of losing and tying games we should win and disappearing when overmatched. There will be ups and downs but I think that when we look back five years from now on our successful 2022 WCQ, right around now is where we will draw the line and say, "This is when the tide turned."
Ugh. I want to win, but not like this https://www.wakingthered.com/2017/7...-gold-cup-game-against-canada-florent-malouda
Was not included in the 23-man squad as a few weeks ago he was hit with a drunk driving charge. They are considering him for the knockout rounds if we make it that far.
Shame for the team as he's best forward there, but good to give young people an example. If only my country went Canada's way.
Alphoso Davies will be playing in a Top European League. He won that game! Cavallini is ahead of Larin, arguably so is Jackson-Hamel
How utterly Canadian (in a good way).....birth places of the 3 goalscorers Karlovac, Yougoslavia Dechmont, Scotland Buduburam, Ghana Keep that in mind the next time a player of dual nationality picks his other country
