Good article. I like the emphasis on the fact that rights fees revenue may cost them a large chunk of their audience. I'd been looking forward to this weekend since the 2016 NWSL Championship ended. Yet now, from my perspective, the start of NWSL season has, for all intents and purposes, been indefinitely delayed. At least there are the televised games in the meantime... Sorry Jenny, the stream is only available via the go90 mobile app. Desktop version coming soon.— Seattle Reign FC (@reignfc) April 16, 2017 "Soon" had better not mean "at the end of the season".
Even though I think the Go90 distribution is a fiasco, I will say the production quality has been pretty good. It's certainly an improvement for most of the teams.
Uh... OK, I take back what I said about production improving... "Please wait while the commercial break ends." The game just started, WTF?!?!?!
And it happened again. Sorry Go90. I'm not putting up with your BS any longer. (Deleting the Go90 app from my phone)
I have no problems on my iPad. You might want to invest in more bandwidth. At least check that your provider isn't pinching back your bps.
Fans, we’re aware commercials inadvertently appeared during live action. We resolved the tech issue and apologize for the interruptions.— National Women’s Soccer League (@NWSL) April 16, 2017
I like all these complaints that they shoulda stayed on YouTube as though those streams were so much better. Yes the limiting factor of go90 sucks but having two cuts to commercial one game so far isn't that bad. Last year I never even bothered watching KC streams because the quality was so bad. 480p stream quality labeled as 1080 and blurry was a chore to watch. Sure, they could have improved quality on YouTube but YT wasn't going to front money for the league Edit: and to clarify, not talking about here. But it's all I see on twitter
You're confusing the quality of the streaming service with the quality of the production team. (and it was 3 cuts to commercials, and that's not the only issue with the service) USL streams on Youtube, so...
Vista WorldLink produced stream on Go90 playing on Nvidia Shield: Vista WorldLink produced stream on Youtube playing on Nvidia Shield: Was Youtube really the problem with the NWSL in previous years? I'd say no. Edit: And in case anyone's concerned about my bandwidth...
I think the color commentators on the streams will improve. Clearly, they're unseasoned. LRB don't have opportunities that a lot of males do— Jennifer Gordon (@jgordon0319) April 17, 2017 Huh... I didn't have a problem with them.
And if anybody's interested, for comparison, here is an MLS game produced by ESPN streaming on WatchESPN on a Nvidia Shield:
This week-end I was busy and I anyway hadn't the time to watch any game, but did I get it right that live matches are only visible on mobile and not on PC/Laptop? I always hated to watch soccer on little screens and if I can't see matches on my desktop I see this as a HUGE downgrade from last season...
all I can find is this page, but as of yet, no replays https://www.go90.com/shows/50V86FWDX7S really sad that we don't get all the games stream lined on youtube anymore. Even poster, wwc_movement's copy of the Lifetime Thorns/Pride game was taken off all ready & Lifetime website offers no replays. Just like air line travel, it seems these days, things keep getting shittier for the worst!
Never mind. I've found them...at least for international fans, they're still up on the NWSL website. I was just looking in the wrong place on the website.
The higher across the board stream standards are appreciated. But the access issue is very annoying. Now it's easier to watch NWSL games if you are outside the U.S. than inside it. Baffling. I am happy for our NWSL fans abroad, but for those of us here (the big majority of fans) it's unwieldy. I haven't rigged up a Chromecast system yet, so only got to watch snippets of games on my phone. Suffice to say a 3-inch screen does NOT make you want to watch a 2-hour game. I was hoping the games would be posted in full afterward on NWSL website or Go90, but as of yet, nothing. If you go to nwslsoccer.com match reports, promisingly there is a play button and it says "watch the replay on Go90", but the link leads to a blank Go90 page. No video.
Although in this circumstance I am lucky enough to be living abroad, I can hear you. I said multiple times that an I-Phone is not a device made to follow soccer: to watch it properly, you need a big screen, at least the size of a laptop.
My biggest complaint is: if the NWSL website is a viable way to watch for international viewers, why not just make that the case for everybody??
