Atlanta United – Zach Loyd (FC Dallas) 2. Minnesota United –Collen Warner (Houston Dynamo) 3. Atlanta United – Clint Irwin (Toronto FC) 3. Minnesota United – Mohammed Saeid (Columbus Crew) 4. Atlanta United – Mikey Ambrose (Orlando City) 4. Minnesota United – Jeff Attinella (Real Salt Lake) 5. Atlanta United – Alec Kann (Sporting KC) 5. Minnesota United – Femi Hollinger-Janzen (New England Revolution)
Irwin was the GK that Toronto's been seeking for over a decade. And they gave up on him after one (injury plagued) season. Maybe they though Bono is an adequate replacement? I disagree.
I thought a couple of them might be considered either "a bargain" or "valuable veteran experience" - but you can never tell exactly what an expansion team is after in one of these drafts. We may not know what they were after until the weekend when they finally finish trades with their 5 guys
Well, I think we were probably about right as far as who might get picked. But with only 5 picks, it's easy to see how a team could find 5 players they wanted more than Jeffrey or Boswell. Also, some players who were picked were immediately traded for somebody else. I don't think we exposed anybody that a non-expansion team would trade for.
Opare perhaps? But not worth enough with a 10 player draft. In a 15 player draft, I'm pretty confident we'd have had someone taken. Anyway, so far, we're winning the offseason. We're accomplishing our goals. Ian Harkes would be my next target. Along with one or two international signings or loans and drafting someone at a position of need (CM, striker, or outside back). I doubt we pick anyone up in the waiver draft and I'm fine with that.
