Wow, the tournament kicked off in style last night. Panama 4 Honduras 2 Curacao 1 Haiti 0 Panama seems to be making strides with all of the youth age groups. Panama is the home team, which can go either way with kids. Sometimes they shine in front of a home crowd. Sometimes they shrink as they're not used to playing under that type of pressure. Good result for them. It was 2-2 until the dying minutes...................... And that Curacao result is an upset, of course. I guess. I was looking at the FIFA rankings the other day, and at the senior level the two highest ranked Caribbean teams are Haiti and Curacao. We know Curacao has athletes. We seem them in baseball. Maybe they've got a few decent talents in this age group. When looking at their squad list, I noted a couple of kids at Dutch academies (Feyenoord, ADO Den Haag, VVV, etc.). At least we might be able to say they're not the typical Caribbean minnow shrapnel.
Their senior team qualified for the Caribbean Cup, which is taking place in June in Martinique. They also qualified for the previous one in 2015, going out with three losses. (Until recently, they competed alongside Aruba as the Netherlands Antilles.)
@Athlone, a video about Goslin and Weah's Jamaican connections. Its strange Goslin says he was born in Jamaica, pretty much every source I can find has him born in Georgia. It wouldn't be the first time though that there was a discrepancy over where a player was born. Zendejas was born in Mexico and the USA, depending on which source you believe. Matchday minus 1: 🇺🇸⚽️🇯🇲U-17 #USMNT players @Kingzyen, @OfficialTimWeah & @chrisgoslin17 each have special connections to the Reggae Boyz. pic.twitter.com/k2ePpdiPEt— U.S. Soccer YNT (@USYNT) April 22, 2017
This is my preferred lineup. Garces Lindsey-Sands-Durkin-Gloster Reynolds-Goslin-Ferri-Carleton Weah-Sargent This is the lineup I think we'll see. Garces Lindsey-Sands-Vasquez-Gloster Durkin-Ferri Acosta Akinola-Sargent-Carleton
Hopefully we see both lineups at some point in the tournament. I like Acosta just a wee bit more than Ferri. Go USA!
I would recommend just utilizing FB live, my friend. It's not the best stream, but it will do the job.
In Panama, yes, where the time zone is always EST. The correct time is 1:30 PM EDT/12:30 PM CDT/11:30 PM MDT/10:30 PM PDT. No TV for this one. Youtube:
aiiiiiiiiiiiya....................... Canada seems perpetually to be in a state of "almost being there" against good teams. A land of perpetual moral victories. The other two teams in the group, in theory the weaker teams, drew. So Canada just needs to take care of business now against teams they should beat. Come on!
Happy match day everyone! I kind of hope Jamaica puts up a fight. I think if it's a blow out then we might come out sluggish vs Mexico Wed. Not a big Ferri/Acosta fan but it's obvious this team has chemistry so here's what I expect... Graces Lindsey-Sands-Vazquez-Gloster Durkin-Ferri Akinola-Acosta-Carleton Sargent I think if there's any deviation from the Nike games it'll be in the back line or Goslin or Angking for Ferri
90% chance that'll be the lineup. Thats what Hackworth prefers, although maybe in a 4-3-3 instead of 4-2-3-1. I really would be surprised if the top lineup has any other possible change than maybe Goslin in for Ferri or Acosta. And there's no Angking on this roster, Booth (who's much better and a year younger) has taken his spot.
