Tournament about to kick off with Canada - French Guiana and Honduras - Costa Rica afterwards. French Guiana does not have Malouda on the team sheet. He was named to the squad but it was recently found out that he wouldn't be eligible
Canada makes it 2-0, with their first goal from the run of play in the Gold Cup since 2009. Been impressed with their forechecking so far
There was a thread for it already lol. https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/2017-gold-cup-concacaf-opponents-watch-all-rs.2063392/
Curacao looking okay early against Jamaica. Outside of the US they're the team I'm rooting for in this tourney. They've had an interesting turnaround in recent years
Almost an El Salvador goal. A chip not unlike Bradley's, though from closer to goal, goes right over the bar. Poor distribution by Corona.
Volleyed Mexico goal. 2-1. ES players don't clear cross coming in, and a Mexican player at the back post hits it across the goal into the lower corner. Can't help but notice that the El Salvador players are all pretty short, or just don't jump high. Because that was a pretty low cross.
El Salvador has shown heart. Had that chip gone in, it would have given ES a lead. The quality between both teams is there. If ES can pressure it has a chance. If Mexico can hold possession for large stretches it should very comfortably leave with 3 points
Goal Mexico. 3-1, that about wraps it up. Cross was decent, goes past an ES defender, a Mexican forward, the GK flails at it, and a wide open Mexican winger taps it in. I'm just going to listen to it in the background.
ES goalkeeper took a serious ball in the face. If he can continue and his quality not be affected. I'm amazed!
Yeah, by Whitecap s 16yr old Alphonso Davies. 3 goals in 3 international appearances. Kid is a talent and will be in Europe when he turns 18.
