Good to know. This may be the first of many transfers out then right? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hard to tell really. Pfeiffer announced the same. I haven't heard of any of their players transferring. I'm sure there's a few there that are highly desired.
Confirmed. Hate to see Chino go! He could have really fit in with Zips in time. It is rare nickname that follows a person around, regardless of the social circle. I understand that Chino is a family nickname from childhood. The PA at matches was the only time I ever heard him called Jesus Perez. Even the coaching staff called him Chino. A real personality this kid.
Hopefully he gets playing time. Barely saw the field in two years at 'Cuse. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
UNC Pembroke has cut their program (DII), not sure of the caliber of player they have but I imagine a good number will be looking for a new home.
I went to look for an article out of curiosity, because Pembroke is listed as being at my club's college combine next week. This article mentions that the head coach announced a new job Tuesday, the day after the team was told that the program was dissolved. So he was leaving anyway. https://robesonian.com/sports/95054/uncp-soccer-family-reacts-to-program-being-cut
They have football. nothing more expensive than that sport. Total bullshit excuse when programs get cut for financial reasons. athletics are actually a good business model for the school. even if fully funded, you're only getting 9.0 scholarships. rosters could be 28 deep. meaning most kids are paying something. No way this is cost cutting. something not right here.
Odds are the coach was informed before anyone else and knew he would have to be searching for a new job well before it was announced. Many division II programs are beginning to go the division III route because the division II model is unsustainable for many schools. Look at Pfieffer, they win a national championship and then move to Division III 2 years later (Will play in the USA south in the fall of 2017)
Coach is also a PDL coach, that was the "new job" he went to. I don't know if it entails more than just PDL now though. But, over last two seasons (minimum), he had been coaching PDL in the summers. Also, the men's soccer program received a $500,000 donation for facilities in the fall 2016. That is a shame.
13 commits in the fall and 5 who early enrolled. That is a bit of a shocker on your first day of classes.
