It was actually a song that was very popular just post WW1. I'm a bit of a history geek. I'm going to avoid asking Doc if he remembers the 78 (or was it a wax roll) of this one?.
My Grandfather was in WWI. I recall him telling me that he wanted to be a Pilot so he enlisted. They put him in a Cavalry Unit handed him a pitch fork and said "pile it over there!"
Article highlighting the revs' "measured approach" to their academy, with Burns and Billelo patting themselves on the back for Diego and Caldwell being ranked1 and 2 for MLS academy field players with 10k and almost 10k minutes respectively. Sort of ironic that they want to be leaders in minutes played among academy kids, when Herivaux can't even see the bench, let alone the field.
"league leader in minutes" doesn't make much sense as a metric of success in a selling league. Andy Najar and DeAndre Yedlin would likely be league leaders as well if they were still around.
“It’s something that we’ve talked about since forming the Academy,” said Revolution president Brian Bilello. “Our philosophy has been to try to be a league leader in minutes contributed by our Academy players. From a goals perspective, our goal has always been to maximize the number of minutes we have being played by Academy players. Why?? Because they are the cheapest players we can get to play for us!
Former academy CB Mitchell Taintor, who has been playing for TFC II since last season, is making his first team debut in the Canadian Championship. TFC haven't bumped him up to an MLS contract yet, though.

Academy Notebook: Revs expand coaching staff as USSDA adjusts age groupings July 19, 2017, 12:59PM EDT Jeff Lemieux
Wait, the revs still have an academy? With so few prospective first teamers coming through it seems like they've given up on it.
The 2017-18 roster is out: https://www.revolutionsoccer.net//post/2017/09/01/revolution-announce-2017-18-academy-roster A few of the guys who will be with the U19 team this season (Angking, Freitas, Vang) have gotten callups to the U17 NT, though none have stuck. Jones, Matthews, and Sardi-Santos, all '03s, were called up to a U14 camp in May. One of the new younger kids, Jack Panayotou '04, has trained with Bayern Munich in the past.
So, if we're not going to spend on the Senior Roster, I'm thinking the Academy has to do a much, much, MUCH better job of producing players than it's currently doing. No offense to Joe Brito, who has some promise, but I'm thinking you hope that your Academy Player of the Year is more than a reserve midfielder for a UNC-Charlotte team that's barely over .500.
Justin Rennicks is back from injury and has played his first two games off the bench for Indiana. Izaiah Jennings has a couple of starts and has played in most games for Louisville.
Isaac Angking has scored nine goals so far and is currently the co-leading scorer across the entire U19 DA.
2 Revs academy players called up for U14 BNT camp. GOALKEEPERS (4): Andrew Cordes (Colorado Rapids; Denver, Colo.), Eliot Jones (New England Revolution; New Britain, Conn.), Gavin Krenecki (Sacramento Republic; Fair Oaks, Calif.), Jacob Morris (Real Colorado; Parker, Colo.) DEFENDERS (14): Adrian Aguilar (LA Galaxy; Los Angeles, Calif.), Niklas Dossmann (De Anza Force; Belmont, Calif.), Andrew Durkin (Richmond United; Henrico, Va.), Marcus Ferkranus (LA Galaxy; Santa Clarita, Calif.), Isaiah Foster (Bethesda SC; Frederick, Md.), Reece Fragle (FC Dallas; Plano, Texas), Jacob Greene (DC United; Crofton, Md.), Noah Hall (Columbus Crew; Cincinnati, Ohio), Isaac Homer (Portland Timbers; Portland, Ore.), Ulysses Martinez (Portland Timbers; Mt. Angel, Ore.), Morris Mathews (New England Revolution; Cambridge, Mass.), Nico Rei McMillan (Seattle Sounders; Seattle, Wash.), Andre Ramos (LA Galaxy; Los Angeles, Calif.), Bogart Roca (LA Galaxy; Sylmar, Calif.), Casey Walls (San Jose Earthquakes; Mill Valley, Calif.) MIDFIELDERS (16): Paxten Aaronson (Philadelphia Union; Medford, N.J.), Sebastian Burke (FC Bayern Munich; Raleigh-Durham, N.C.), Javier Casas (Chicago Fire; Addison, Ill.), Caden Clark (Barca Academy; Medina, Minn.), Brian Gutierrez (Chicago Fire; Burbank, Ill.), Dante Huckaby (Philadelphia Union; Morgantown, W. Va.), Martin Killeen (LA Galaxy; Brea, Calif.), Sota Kitahara (Seattle Sounders; Edmonds, Wash.), Daniel Leyva (Seattle Sounders; Seattle, Wash.), Brian Lopez (Weston; Miami, Fla.), Diego Luna (San Jose Earthquakes; Sunnyvale, Calif.), Leonardo Martinez (San Jose Earthquakes; Biola, Calif.), Jack McGlynn (BW Gottschee; Middle Village, N.Y.), Anthony Miron (Real So Cal; Pacoima, Calif.), Nicholas Pariano (Philadelphia Union; Wayne, Pa.), Aidan Wolf (Columbus Crew; Cleveland Heights, Ohio) FORWARDS (14): Nicolas Bellini (La Roca SC; Lehi, Utah), Andres Cardenas (Weston; Doral, Fla.), Edward Castro (LA Galaxy; Los Angeles, Calif.), Alec Kenison (San Diego Surf; San Diego, Calif.), Tyler Freeman (Sporting KC; Shawnee, Kan.), Selmir Miscic (Philadelphia Union; Royersford, Pa.), Alex Monis (FC United; Naperville, Ill.), Sebastian Nava (LA Galaxy; Wilmington, Calif.), Ricardo Pepi (FC Dallas; McKinney, Texas), Jonathan Perez (LA Galaxy; Pico Rivera, Calif.), Samuel Sarver (Columbus Crew; Beachwood, Ohio), Dante Sealy (FC Dallas; Frisco, Texas), Dantouma Toure (PDA; Trenton, N.J.)
I get your point given his coaching history, but I'm hoping he's kept busy enough with the senior team that he doesn't have much time to focus on the academy kids (other than incorporating them into pre-season and in-season practices for those close to ready.). That said, player development for the kids who do make the senior team is almost guaranteed to improve, as I saw little of it from Heaps/Soehn.
I second that, want him to focus on the first team. However, one thing he said in an interview stood out to me - in Europe 22 is old. He seemed to indicate the revs have to/will get younger which I love. I want to see Heriveaux and even Wright get minutes. Enough of the patting themselves on the back for Fagundez/Caldwell - get some more starters through.
