More like a 3-4-3. The wing backs are considered part of the midfield and go end line to end line. At least the Chelsea wing backs so. So in effect they play on the back line in the midfield and they get into the attack all the way into the opponent's box.

Chelsea has become proficient at defending with five on the back line and then springing a very quick counter attack. The wing backs are an important part of the attack regardless.

I would argue against Doyle being on this list. He was used improperly for the role they hired him into. He was hired to score goals, but was used almost as a dmid. Can't count the number of times I saw him back on D getting a nice take-away.

Many of the other Rapids could be on it, though.

Given our WC flame out, I agued they got zilch out of it on-field or off.

I really think this turned into one of the worst deals ever for Rapids. My hope is he retires completely, but given its his final pay day I think he will be here until Contract ends.

I think that's ignoring a lot of what happened last year. The visibility bump. the sold out games, and lets not forget that this isn't costing the Rapids anything but a DP slot due to the TransAmerica sponsorship. Honestly its nowhere close to a worst deal ever.

I'd say he was worth year 1 (or 1/2 as it was). But I don't see him being much of a draw at this point and honestly see his constant yelling at the back line a case of poor leadership.

I'd be happy with McMath and the Transamerica money going to another player..even if it's less, maybe it gets tied into an extension of their sponsorship. That said, it sounds like we're stuck with Timmy for another season.

But would you want it with zero transamerica money?

if the Transamerica money is just going to Howard, I see no loss there.

The equation only works for me when McMath is there in the wings.

Or Irwin not getting traded away in first place.

Big money should only ever get paid to a Scorer who can actually score or creative attacking player who makes the whole attack better. We spend more on GK spot (Howard, MacMath, whoever) then some teams entire MLS payroll.

Reportedly it covers Howard and more
Every rumor I've heard is that the Irwin deal was done essentially as soon as the 2015 season ended, before Howard was even on the radar. I'm guessing Irwin and Pablo clashed heads.

If Aigner maintains game fitness going forward (and I have no reason to think he won't), then he will prove to be a solid acquisition. I was skeptical at first, but he's definitely won me over with his play.

MacMath has become a vital player, and he's young.

Those are the two players on the roster whom I see as players to retain at all costs.

I'm not a Tim Howard enthusiast, but he's here until the clock runs out. I'm OK with that, since he isn't the problem. There are 6 or 7 gaping holes upfield that need to be filled, and that's no small task. By the time those holes are filled, Howard will be in the Museum of Natural History anyway.

I'm not sold on Gashi. Too many times, he's dialed it in when the team has needed him to play. If that can get turned around, great. But I need to see it to believe it. My old coach had a saying: "The difference between a champ and a chump is that you tell a champ to do something and he practices it a thousand times till he gets it right and you tell a chump to do something a thousand times before he practices it once." Right now, Gashi seems a lot closer to the chump side of that scale.

Beyond that, the Rapids have a cluster of younger players. Several are protected as GAs or Homegrowns. Some of the others are cheap to keep, so why not. Maybe under better coaching a few of them will develop. I don't have a problem giving the new coach the opportunity to do the winnowing out.

If there is an expansion draft, there sure won't be any gut-wrenching protection decisions for the Rapids this year.

    Just my three cents worth.*

    *Darned inflation.

The 2018 apps don't come out for a couple weeks still but the 2017 apps are great. I prefer Touch (tablet) to Mobile (phone) as Mobile feels to pared down to me compared to the full game.

How are the recent iterations of FM?

I had to go cold turkey about 7 or 8 years ago because it was taking up all my time and had killed a few laptops from overheating, but every now and then I get that itch...

I bounce in and out every 3-4 years so each time I look they have made significant changes but it seems like year to year the changes are pretty minor.

Just based on the numbers, you'd think it was impossible for a team to not have a single player anywhere on the list. But the Rapids have accomplished it.

Can't make an iron-clad case for anybody, altho I think Tim Howard is among the top 5 MLS GKs when healthy. The fact that we aren't all screaming "but what about [player X]" says tons about the lack of quality in the roster.
