Diego Rubio to Club America? https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2017/11/20/rumor-club-america-after-sporting-kc-forward-diego-rubio
That would be bizarre. I mean, we're expecting to see money spent on the striker spot. Can't be that normal to start the buying window with no striker corps at all...
mind-boggling if america actually paid us something for him... and if they do offer, we should snatch their hands off.
Apropos of nothing, my literal favorite thing about MLS is when their PR department breathlessly passes along rumors. This is the league office! Does any other league do something like this? Either, 1) they have no inside info, which makes passes along rumored information incredibly unbecoming for the league office; Or, 2) they do have inside info, but are choosing to withhold some/all of it in order to service the rumored story. I fail to see how this is helpful to the player or to the MLS club involved in the rumor. There are many ways that a league's PR staff can keep their players and teams in the news - we're in the middle of the playoffs for God's sake! Resurrecting the spirit of that old mls-rumors.net site or whatever it was called is just wild to me. /rant If Rubio leaves, I too expect him to become the top scorer in Liga MX.
Top goal scorers in Liga MX are guys like Gignac. Comparing Rubio to someone of that level is like trying to compare a boy to a man.
Ha, no posts in this forum for almost a week. Quiet offseason so far. And speaking of quiet offseason... weren't we supposed to start hearing about contract options today? Or did I hallucinate that one.
https://www.sportingkc.com/post/201...ises-options-11-players-ahead-2018-mls-season 11 options picked up. Iwasa's, Mustivar's, Oliveira's, and Pasher's were declined.
Now I'm even more irritated that Oliveira was getting important minutes during the last week of the regular season and was one of the last eleven men on the field during our annual playoff loss.
Over who? I mean I'm not even defending Oliveira here? Who else on the roster (not just the 18) do you put in there? I mean Benny was toast by the time Oliveira came onto the field in the playoff game keeping him on the field at that point does more harm than good the way he'd been playing.
Then why not pick up his option and bring him into preseason so that you keep him under your umbrella?
Guess I figured this was how you unsigned a player for the senior team. I mean, how do you unpromote a player back to your affiliate squad elsewise?
The only way you could really do that is make a formal trade/move with SPR. But at that point, you've already seen them, known they don't provide enough for your senior team, and moved on; so what's the point?
I was kinda thinking that this kind of move could be a way to get a guy a raise and let MLS pick up the tab for the entire salary, if and only if you see that you will finish the season with roster spots available. I mean, if they were paying him 30K for SPR, they could approach him and say: "Look, we'd like to sign you to the MLS minimum of 55K for the rest of the season and then we will not pick up the option. Sound good?" So they would go from paying 30K out of pocket to 0, and the player makes some decent bank for 4 months. The big problem I think is that it would get the player all mixed up in the acquisition and waiver machinations of MLS that may make it difficult to re-sign to SPR.
Latif now has his green card, that complicates the internationals I’d assumed we’d protect for the expansion draft. Need to protect 2 of Lobato, Musa, Mustivar, Oliveira, and Pasher (Salloi is automatically protected and counts as 1 of our 3). It’ll also complicate the rest of the protected players as I’d guess we’ll protect Latif.
