Here's Ratcliffe's St. Mary's record: 2002 Saint Mary's 9-9-2 3-3-1 -- 2001 Saint Mary's 15-3-2 5-2-0 NCAA Second Round 2000 Saint Mary's 12-6-2 5-2-0 -- 1999 Saint Mary's 13-4-1 5-2-0 -- 1998 Saint Mary's 6-12-0 3-4-0 -- It's a pretty good record, I watched them play back in the day and they were good but not consistently near the level of Santa Clara or Portland. They had a great keeper while Ratcliffe was there, which was a big help -- one of the best college keepers I've seen. His teams, however, even towards the end of his time there, were not at the level of Santa Clara or Portland, which split the College Cups in 2001 and 2002. With more time at St. Mary's, who knows, we'd have a better basis for comparison.
And we might have a WOW accomplishment. This might be the first time ever in which two "Yellow" teams are in the College Cup. West Virginia wears yellow, and USC often wears (golden) yellow as well. That reminds me. USC and Georgetown are both #2 seeds, and they play each other. Which team will be considered the home team, and which one the road team? That is important in determining which colored kits each team wears. Will USC be wearing yellow, white, or maroon kits in the College Cup Semifinal?
Did you watch the Pac 12 Network at all this year? USC wore yellow a lot, including when they played against UNC earlier this year. And also when they played against UCLA at the Stub Hub Center. Not to mention, their official team picture was shot in their (mustard) yellow kits.
I must admit, not much of a PAC12 fan, so no. I guess I like them in the maroon kits more. That yellow look is soooo WVU.
