Of course. Referees age, move into different life stages (new jobs, family/pregnancies, etc.), have poor performances, etc. Lots of reasons some referees are not around, and I don't know the reasons for all of them. But I do notice some turnover even just from last year: no Domka, Steinhaus, Yamagishi, Di Iorio, etc. I would guess Domka's absence is performance-based from last year's WWC, but for the rest, I'm not sure.

Since one of the names of the referee in English is "umpire" (mostly in baseball, I guess, though), I find the name of the Uruguayan referee quite funny: Umpierrez Claudia Ines. :giggle:

I think for group G it comes down to who finishes first.

People here seem to discard France as a lock for 2nd place but I wouldn't be so sure. They can certainly play even with the US, and we're not in the elimination games yet so they might not be plagued with the same inability to score as they've been having late in tournaments in recent years.

Saturday's game might have a huge impact on the rest of the tournament.

I think more disturbing is that all of the crews are mixed except the two from concacaf, guaranteeing that referee teams aren't used to working with each other. We saw the result from the Germany match, where a crew from Malaysia, Australia, and Japan failed to contain the mayhem.

I have to ask this: where are the highlights from the game? I didn't find them on the FIFA website... o_O

Not all of the matches are at a convenient time here in Europe, so highlights would be quite needed...

I don't think FIFA has anything to do with the Olympics. Here in the States, NBC owns the Olympic broadcasting rights and are streaming all events live. I don't know if it is geo-blocked. I heard somewhere the BBC was also covering, that might be more of an avenue. Someone else mentioned they live in Italy and could see all games yesterday. Will have to find the post.

While I think US will win Saturday against France, I wouldn't bet much on it. It could definitely turn the tide of the tournament.

As a USWNT fan, I am certainly not discounting France. Saturday's game is very much the one that scares me. I remember the #SheBelieves match. It might have been a win, but certainly not a confident one, especially in that first half.

Olympic soccer is a FIFA tournament, but the ins-and-outs of the tournament, like logistics, are run by the IOC, including broadcast rights. In any case, NBC Sports on Youtube has some highlights up, but I don't know if they're geoblocked. Here's the Canada goal that set a record for fastest goal in Olympic history:

Here in the States, you can find everything on the nbcsports APP. I use IOS. I'm sure there must be other versions.

Full games replays , full highlights, live streams for anything they have broadcast on any NBC affiliate. Some content they didn't broadcast.

Here's a screen shot of a menu page for yesterday's games.

You need to authenticate your service provider.

Like ex ref , I know nothing about geoblocking.

I went to a college practice yesterday and watched the end of the USA match there.

I just tested the NBCOlympics website, and it appears that you do not need to sign in or authenticate a service provider to just watch highlights. (You do, however, have to authenticate if watching live or full replays.) Still might be geoblocked though...

I can sadly confirm it's geoblocked for me in Italy. :(

In particular, I still couldn't find an highlights video of French win vs Colombia: even FFF's website (French Football Federation) is "not available" in Italay!:devilish: (*Outraged*)

Olympics have become just business and no "free sport for everyone"... *grumble*

Thanks! The highlights of the other matches on that site had been already blocked, but I made it in time to watch France at least!

Excellent play by Christine Sinclair to pounce on the "not-quite-in-game-mode" Australian defender.

Didn't know where to post this but Marta got to carry the olympic flag into the stadium during the opening ceremony. I was really shocked she was able to make the opening ceremony since her team plays tomorrow but I found out they play in Rio tomorrow so they might have been all there. What impressed me was when they announced her name, she got a pretty loud ovation. I always assume nobody knows who she is(besides us hardcore woso fans) and Brazil doesn't care about women's soccer.
