Well that's unintentionally dumb. Houston gets to try and sell tickets to all those Canada, Guatamala, T&T, Guayan fans . Im sure Houston thought they would at least be getting Mexico.
Well they do have Canada and T&T connections, there. Doubt they are too worried about group stage ticket sales. It's a mitzvah.
If Waldrum doesnt coach T&T as he didnt in Caribbean qualifiers they lose that connection. This needed to be set up with Canada and Mexico in Houston, Costa Rica and the US in Dallas and draw the other four teams into the groups. They could justify it because those where the four CONCACAF teams who went to WC.
Well, that looks balanced... But at least its something different; I don't think the US has ever played Puerto Rico before and T&T only beat them by one goal...should be interesting.
Schedule (all times local): Feb. 10: US v Costa Rica, 7:30 pm in Dallas Feb. 13: US v Mexico, 3 pm in Dallas Feb. 15: US v Puerto Rico, 7:30 pm in Dallas Feb. 19: Semifinals in Houston Feb. 21: Final, 4 pm in Houston
This will be the first ever meeting between the US and Puerto Rico. The two teams have never had the opportunity to face each other before. The one time PR has advanced to the final round of qualification was 1998, and the US wasn't participating that year.
Whole schedule stolen from Gulati's garbage 2016 CONCACAF Women’s Olympic QualifyingFrisco, Texas – Toyota StadiumHouston, Texas – BBVA Compass StadiumTimes U.S. Central (U.S. Eastern in parentheses) FIRST ROUND Group A: USA, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Costa Rica Group B: Canada, Guatemala, Trinidad & Tobago, Guyana Wednesday, Feb. 10 (Frisco) Puerto Rico vs. Mexico 5 p.m. (6 p.m.) USA vs. Costa Rica 7:30 p.m. (8:30 p.m.) Thursday, Feb. 11 (Houston) Guatemala vs. Trinidad & Tobago 5 p.m. (6 p.m.) Canada vs. Guyana 7:30 p.m. (8:30 p.m.) Saturday, Feb. 13 (Frisco) Costa Rica vs. Puerto Rico 12:30 p.m. (1:30 p.m.) USA vs. Mexico 3 p.m. (4 p.m.) Sunday, Feb. 14 (Houston) Guyana vs. Guatemala 12:30 p.m. (1:30 p.m.) Trinidad vs. Canada 3 p.m. (4 p.m.) Monday, Feb. 15 (Frisco) Mexico vs. Costa Rica 5 p.m. (6 p.m.) USA vs. Puerto Rico 7:30 p.m. (8:30 p.m.) Tuesday, Feb. 16 (Houston) Trinidad & Tobago vs. Guyana 5 p.m. (6 p.m.) Canada vs. Guatemala 7:30 p.m. (8:30 p.m.) SEMIFINALS Friday, Feb. 19 (Houston) Group B winner vs. Group A runner-up 4:30 p.m. (5:30 p.m.) Group A winner vs. Group B runner-up 7:30 p.m. (8:30 p.m.) FINAL Sunday, Feb. 21 (Houston)Semifinal winners 4 p.m. (5 p.m.)
Games in Dallas and Houston - Nnnnnaaaaahh, I'm not very excited. Group A Group B 1 US(1) Canada(11) 2 Puerto Rico(115) Guatemala(84) 3 Mexico(26) T&T(48) 4 Costa Rica(34) Guayan(92) Yikes, February in Dallas weather-wise is a crap shoot, not so much in Houston (200 miles further south). I would highly recommend the Blue Goose Cantina on the west edge of Toyota Stadium complex. 3 Margaritas pre-match ought to do the trick - help keep you warm during the match.
Nah, I see her getting subbed at some point, and possibly sitting out the 3rd game if the US is sitting on 6pts.
As opposed to the WC qualifier where Lloyd played every minute on a similar schedule despite a 21-1 goal difference?
Touche'. Though the pressure isn't as intense, and I think Ellis is more comfortable with different players now, than when she was still getting the know the team in 2014.
21-0. The US hasn't conceded a goal in major tournament qualification since the loss to Mexico in 2010.
I caught my mistake eventually but not within the window to edit. Thankfully, Ellis seems to have loosened up a bit since that tournament where she felt Lloyd was needed every minute and couldnt spare a second for a developing player like Johnston despite the competition.
Although, given Carli's WWC performance, it's hard to argue that Ellis didn't do the right thing. But, this time around, I see something different needed and coming.
Hopefully ur right. Despite how well conditioned she is u have to worry that all these minutes r taking their toll.
Waldrum has been officially relieved of his T&T coaching duties: http://wired868.com/2016/01/12/waldrum-says-goodbye-to-women-warriors-texan-axed-by-ttfa/
