Wish the revs had selected Jonathan Campbell, his teammate at UNC. He's 6'2 which bodes well on set pieces and clearances in a physical league like MLS. Plus, he contributed some offense as well. The revs need that type of threat. McCrary is just 5'9, not long from a serious knee injury and didn't score or assist much in college. Doesn't impress me as a good choice vs other options. I'm not optimistic.

Seriously, I couldn't resist the photo-op, but Ives says this guy is a "Day one starter at right back for them." If that's the case, it was a good pick, and I will be pleasantly surprised.

And I can't help but laugh at Chicago. With the #1 pick they draft a guy other than the consensus #1 pick, and then trade him to NYC for the #4 pick and take a guy they could have had at #1?

It's the chance to have 2 picks in the top 4. Smart actually.

Well, not if you have to give up one of them (#1) to get the other (#4)...

They got allocation money for trading down. I would guess the deal was in the works before they made the #1 pick, but didn't finalize it by the time the clock ran out on make the pick.

OK, if they got money for swapping picks and got the guy they wanted anyway, good on them. That sounds like something we would do, like putting in a discovery claim on a player we had no interest in. Now that Nelson Rodriguez is running the show in Chicago at least you know he knows the arcane MLS rules inside-out.

He's got 24g/20a in his college career which means he scored 16 fewer goals for Wake than revs legend Schil.

But who knows, maybe he will do fine.

I see both making the roster but neither being a needle mover. Well, with that out of the way the front off can finalized all those signings they have had on hold waiting to see what they could seat in the draft. This is 1998 isn't it???
Seriously with Camp coming up soon we should be hearing who---if any-- players are being invited.

    The silence has been defining

Possibly, McCrary is an intelligent, hard-working, athletic, tactically mature kid with good foot skills who has a reputation for being a good teammate. I'm not saying I know this to be true. I'm saying he 's a Rev now and deserves the benefit of the doubt. I'm looking forward to seeing him play.

The draft is a distraction. The real business is with the big budget acquisitions.

Gamble is 5' 7" & 150, which makes him small even for our roster. o_O

Well said brother. I can at least give him a chance.

That's my fear is there are no big budget acquisitions coming. I'd bet you a beer McCrary is the revs' opening day RB.

    Completely agree with this.

But then again, Burns had to spend some serious time scouting, so he probably needs a few weeks off. And maybe a promotion.

Maybe this belongs in the optimism thread, but I'm thinking that somehow our "big" signing will be some guy Sporting doesn't want. He may turn out to be a good player, or he could be another Didier Domi, but if Burns actually does land this big fish, he's upped the ante from just "trying." And for that we should be grateful. High standards and accountability! Woo-hoo!

JDEsq09, or whatever intern Burns assigned to update this, hasn't gotten to it yet...
