Now that the Revs season is over, it's time to look ahead to what Burns does best, the SuperDraft. Revs will pick 10th this year. An extra pick was inserted into the middle of the 2nd round (at #31, honoring a trade Chivas USA made before they went belly up), making the Revs three picks #10, #30, and #51. The Revs 4th round pick (#71) was traded to Vancouver for Kobayashi (I'd say the Revs got the better end of that deal).
Last year, Philly loaned Zac MacMath to Colorado, with the option to make it permanent for a first round pick. With Colorado holding the #2 overall pick, they declined that option. Rapids to retain No. 2 overall pick in 2016 MLS SuperDraft; Zac MacMath is a Philadelphia Union player By Daniel Boniface The Denver Post November 5, 2015, 9:12 pm
Wanted to keep this separate from the other MLS offseason thread. Revs have picks 10, 30 and 51. TDS lists their big board.
MLS Draft predictions are fun to follow, but, outside of the first few selections, the draft never seems to follow any of the pundit's picks.
Can you merge this with the other one? http://forums.bigsoccer.com/threads/2016-mls-superdraft.2026457/
So far, everyone has held on to their first round pick except Houston, who Monday traded it to PHI for Cristian Maidana and Andrew Wenger. PHI now has the #3 and #6 overall picks.
Combine invitees... List includes at least one Revs, Whitecap and RBNY Academy player ... teams chose not to sign them.
You may have just missed out on the next Taylor Twellman or Shalrie Joseph (let's party like it's 2002).
@Hisco5 A HGP can be invited to the combine if he hasn't signed a contract yet. Doesn't mean he won't.— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) December 11, 2015
However in this case, it does mean Taintor wasn't offered a contract. While Mitch Taintor (Rutgers) - who was invited to MLS Combine - is eligible as #NERevs Homegrown player, club did not offer him a contract.— Jeff Lemieux (@jeff_lemieux) December 11, 2015 Hard to say whether that's good or bad without knowing too much about the player.
Those days are over. This is more like the NASL/USL draft. If a team like Philly is willing to move players for picks, move the picks. The Revs had one of the best drafts in MLS in 2015 with no picks. Their picks got them Teal Bunbury, Dimitry Imbongo, Brad Knighton and Jeremy Hall. Their best pick in 2014 was the 4th rounder they traded for Charlie Davies. The other four guys from that draft are already gone. If you're up at the very top of the 1st round and there's a kid you love, take the pick. Otherwise trade baby trade.
Yes, if you can get, say, a top-5 pick, go for it. Otherwise, you probably won't get a lot of mileage. Maybe a guy who, in the right situation can go to Rochester and develop (sure) and become a useful player in a year or two, but don't expect a lot.
Draft time used be a bit like the week before Christmas as a kid. Now it's starting to feel more like an annual dental check.
From DraftUtopia: New England Revolution: Jonathan Campbell, D, North Carolina New England needs to take the best player available. Andrew Farrell needs to move back to right back. Getting North Carolina center back Jonathan Campbell helps solve this void. Walker Hume got benched during the season and his draft stock took a huge hit this year. Campbell also managed to keep Fabian Herbers in check in North Carolina's College Cup loss to Creighton so I think he's earned the right to be drafted here to round out the top 10. - See more at: http://www.draftutopia.com/2016mlsmockdraft.html#sthash.WT512NVI.dpuf Read more at http://www.draftutopia.com/2016mlsmockdraft.html#CwMbrjURYq5U8pKc.99
Agreed - I can remember the banter on here but it is just not the "main" pipeline anymore. Still think they do a good job making it an "event" in conjunction with the NSCAA convention and the women's draft.
