2nd half much more lively than the 1st. both sides look more threatening.

poor clearance falls to Fessi, who takes it forward and strokes it home! 1-0.

Villa continue pouring on the pressure after the re-start.

    cracking stuff, here.

    job done.

Wednesday the better side in the first half, Villa much improved in the second. a harsh result for them, perhaps, as you'd have to say they deserved something from it. still, nice season opener for Wednesday.

very frustrating (not that I saw it). up 1-0 away going into stoppage time, concede, then lose it late in extra time.

no serious fixture congestion - there's a stretch in November with one match in twenty days. shame to be out of a cup this soon.

Murphy, 18, entered the game in the 86th minute. Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal used the League Cup game to play several youngsters, among them Murphy and George Hirst, both called up from the academy team.

Murphy became the latest player from the Class of 2016 to sign with a European club instead of heading to college or signing with an MLS club. Murphy, who played for PDA in New Jersey, signed a three-year contract Sheffield Wednesday.

wow, what an unwelcome surprise. i would've thought he'd be loving life at the moment. he had a great season last year and was set to have another one with a decent chance at promotion. now he's throwing a tantrum and refusing to play? i'm speechless.

i was perusing owlstalk earlier today to see some of the fallout when i saw that this had been posted. there were pages and pages of people saying that, because he's written this apology, everyone should move on and support him from here on out. i was flabbergasted. "i've never wanted to leave..." ??? what? gimme a break. you wanted to leave so badly you stood your teammates up at the bus to norwich... and only played against villa after a lot of persuasion from the manager and others. "i hope we can move on so i can focus only on my passion." your "passion" is apparently only money, not football, fessi. i FULLY expect him to move still before the end of the window. this is clearly nothing more than an effort to placate the fans as his initial gamble didn't pay off. i just don't understand how so many of our fans lack the minimum level of cynicism to see through this. i mean, especially what this club has been through over the last 15-20 years.

i'm not saying he's dead to me, but he's got a long road to haul to get back on my good side (for whatever that's worth). if he's really honest about his intentions, then he should re-sign with the club for an additional season or two, take only a modest pay increase (because let's be honest, he does deserve a bit more), but also allow the club to tack on a large minimum sale clause ... like $20M+. he's tried to apologize with his words, but his actions are what i want to see. postings to twitter and facebook mean f***-all to me.

    Sheffield Wednesday 0:2 Leeds United

It was a shutout for Robert Green, who let Clint Dempsey score in England 1:1 USA in World Cup 2010.
