Looks like England are trying to steal a good young Portuguese prospect, according to some media outlets in England. Leonardo Da Silva Lopes, just turned 18 and plays for Peterborough United. He's been linked in recent months with Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool...etc. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ils-finest-young-player-seen-George-Best.html https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/foot...va-lopes-to-switch-allegiances-from-portugal/ There's another good young Portuguese player in England that is doing really well and turning heads. 18 year old Ronaldo Vieira from Leeds United. He's played in 21 games and has played a big role for a team that is battling to get back into the Premiership. http://www.zerozero.pt/player.php?id=494860&epoca_id=0&search=1
They are really chasing foreign players at the moment, the Angel Gomes case is an absolute disgrace, I wonder how he will feel when he lines up against his cousin if Por and ENG play at u17 level. Brexit is IMO will be a positive for youth development in Portugal, they sure know how to ruin a decent prospect.
Tiago Ilori is moving to Reading from Liverpool Good move for him, he'll get much much more game time and he's got one of the best defenders of the past few decades as manager
Why any player thinks it is a good idea to graduate in England instead of Portugal is beyond me, has any Portuguese player ever done well (developed) in their youth (U18) after a move to England?
Ilori is still young and as a defender it takes more time to develop and become consistent under continual game time.
He was already 17/18 when he moved to Manchester. I was thinking more like a player who went to England (from Portugal) at lets say 12/13 and then really developed in England.
Ronaldo was 18 when he moved to MUFC and was 16 when he made his senior debut for SCP. He also has 4 WPOTY awards so it's hard to compare him to any other player. He's 1 in a million type of player
http://metro.co.uk/2017/01/18/crist...ve-for-andre-silva-over-paulo-dybala-6387981/ Ronaldo wants Andre Silva in Real Madrid.
http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/600688/Domingos-Quina-Chelsea-West-Ham-transfer-news I suspected this as a possibility, after Angel Gomes, and wouldn't be surprised if true. Both their dads played for Portugal but their hearts seem to now rest in England (aka $$$)
England has also called up a highly rated Portuguese youngster from Fulham, Fabio Carvalho. He was called up to Portugal's Under 15's last year but now has accepted to play for England. http://www.zerozero.pt/player.php?id=510188&epoca_id=0&search=1
There's a youngster in Spain that has turned down the Spanish National team several times in the hopes of playing for Portugal. He's a 17 year old winger from Atletico Madrid and is very highly rated, already trained with the first team under Diego Simeone.
