What was the final attendance at the championship last night? Did not look like many people braved the weather.
Woof. That's pretty bad for a championship game your team is playing in, even with rain. People just didn't want to deal with the weather rather than see their team win a championship they haven't won in years?
Stadium seats nearly 14,000 so its going to look 2/3 empty. It was actually the best atmosphere of the year, they've announced higher attendances this year but those were tickets distributed. Rhinos lost a lot of fans with the miscues over the years, (i.e. stadium location - political decision); they are having a tough time getting those fans back... http://www.democratandchronicle.com...er-fans-rhinos-deserve-your-support/74043006/
Yes, the atmosphere was quite decent. It's not just rain (and, of course, there is no roof unless you're on the suite level), it's temperatures that were approaching the freezing mark. That picture, two minutes into the game, happened to be during a particularly wet period of the game. Some folks watched from the TV in the concourse. It wasn't a comfortable evening, but a fun game for those that toughed it out. Attendance hasn't been great. And many things contribute. (Heck, the Rhinos still have no mention of winning a title on their webpage, which tells you the marketing side may not be perfect....) But something like four of their last five weekend home games have had some amount of rain. After June, the summer was actually pretty nice in Rochester, but you could almost predict the next rainfall based on the Rhinos schedule. (Conversely, the Western NY Flash didn't have a single drop of rain their entire season.) It's really amazing though. Their Hall of Fame night, which had a nice presale, was played in extremely heavy rain. (And probably should have been cancelled.) Their craft brewing event had such heavy rain it got cancelled and rescheduled. The thrilling 3-2 win against the Red Bulls was played in heavy rain in parts. And there were another handful of games played in more moderate-to-light rain.
