No offensive subs and having to use a sub for a sub was killer. Sapong will sleep straight thru til Thursday. Guy was exhausted. Any coach with half a brain wouldn't have selected him for the PK
What a monster effort that was. Vintage All Day Ray™. But how was that not a red? I felt embarrassed for that dolt officiating. Ha Ha Ha Portland knocks #USOC2014 champion Seattle out of #USOC2015 with 3-1 win, leaving @PhilaUnion the only remaining reigning 2014 finalist.— Philly Soccer Page (@phillysoccerpg) June 17, 2015
I wanted to, but convinced myself to stay for penalties. Brutal. At least I checked traffic ahead of time and avoided 95. Bring on the McCarthy puff pieces...
At the very least we could have had someone rip up the refs "book" for some excitement a la Clint Dempsey last night. Clint comes in the video around 28 seconds.
So unfortunately the next two MLS games will be brutal. We played a first choice lineup, went 120+ and now have to travel to LA and then back home to play Seattle midweek...
Im sure everyone wants to rip the ref for not giving a straight red on the Gaddis tackle, but if anyone has a gripe it's Rochester for the phantom foul when they chipped McCarthy and then got a yellow for bonus bad refereeing. The narrative flip from McCarthy is awful to savior was whiplash inducing. Even Curtin said he yelled at him at halftime. Now the world is awash in Cechhat mic drops this morning. Hopefully it's the Cosmos, would consider a road trip for the doucheyness of their fans from last year. A three hour pro/rel tailgate debate. Also got to meet @HandsomePete and @UnionDues
I think there were several weird referee decisions last night. Sapong teed off on a defender in the early minutes and there was no call. The Gaddis thing should have been a red. Where was the foul on the Rochester goal? The Rhinos also had an offiside given in extra time that was well on side and likely would have led to a breakaway. There was a soft foul given against the union in the second half. There was dangerous free kick and a phantom call against Rochester right away. It also took a long time to go to the pocket, but once he did, several cam quickly.
I thought the ref did OK until the second half when there were so many fouls and he began to lose control of the game. Definitely several questionable offsides calls and the Rochester non-goal looked like it should have stood from my vantage point.
saw a bunch of people in TRE who haven't been there in awhile. did the Sons of Ben movie refuel some people's interest in the team/SOBs?
The only winners were people like me, apparently. Watched the WWC and checked this game once in a while on Twitter.
There was another major sighting last night at the game as well, walking down to the field side seats. Snapped this pic real quick, and made sure that he wasn't a ghost or a mirage
I didn't realize you were there with the others until after the fact. Otherwise I would have said hello.
Everyone played like shit. I was underwhelmed by Jimmy, but he played a few good, creative balls and made a few good runs. Considering how bad Wenger has been, I think he deserves more minutes to more properly evaluate him. Though wasn't the guy who got the phantom yellow the same guy who should have been sent off? If the latter card is given, the former botch is never given. McCarthy played like shit but that hat drop was pretty baller.

Was it just me? I actually felt kinda sick and had to go up and take a shower after watching that horror show. I've been on board here, a STH from day one but I cannot remember a Union side playing worse than last night. I mean they brought NOTHING to the game. Rochester looked far more motivated AND far more organized as a squad than the Union for most of the match. What the hell is going on and where do we go from here? Did they not just get a week and a half off? They looked exhausted after the first 20 minutes and at times it looked like it was the first time these 11 had ever met. I hafta say now that I'm D.O.N.E. with Curtin. If this is his squad after a full year and they wont play for him and have zero on-field organization than that's on him.
Honestly they were 100% awful for most of the game last night. My wife can testify to my repeated mantra of, "THEY ARE NOT GOING TO SCORE! YOU ONLY NEED 1!" It was obvious the Rhinos weren't doing anything offensively, and even without us playing one of our VERY defensive midfielders, we still couldn't muster anything! There really wasn't anything good to take out of that. We wasted 120+ minutes of our starters' time (on a week we could not afford to waste any time) on a match that should have been decided in the first 15 minutes. We really need wing help, too. There were several moments when the ball went out to the wing at midfield, and the Rhinos had a player there with not a single Union player in sight. Sometimes it took 4-7 seconds before we covered the wing, or got to a ball that was out near the sidelines.
