So the NPSL is having their playoff finalists enter the tournament? Not based on the regular season?

Last year in the west it was through a playoff's prior to the season starting. I'm not sure about other regions.

Hmmm. That sentence from the GBFC site looks a little misleading. Looks like for the regions other than the West where they had a tournament in March they used the 2013 regular season last year.

In the Northeast and South all four of the 2013 regular season division winners made the Open Cup.
In the Midwest, Detroit City won their division and got in but the Quad City Eagles who won the other division didn't appear. Maybe they declined.

If I understand the query correct, I think it will be zero problems. Last year, there were the following match ups in Round 4 involving affiliated teams:

    San Jose v Sacramento
    Harrisburg v Philadelphia
Columbus v Dayton (Had Dayton not lost to Indy)

There was also one in Round 5:

    New England v Rochester

So USSF have zero concerns over MLS/USLPro affiliations being "drawn" together.

If the issue is MLS v MLS reserves, then that shouldnt be too much of problem either. According to my math, there could be 5 MLS reserves from USLPro (NYRB, RSL, LAG, POR, SEA). 4 U23/reserve sides made the competition last year. One addition potential clash shouldnt create that many difficulties

Worse case scenario: there might be quite a few MLS first teams facing other teams' reserve squads, particularly in the West. But I guess they would take that over playing a team on the opposite coast.

It is also advantageous that USSF dont set the entire bracket at the start. If they keep to the same format as last year, the draw for Round 4 (MLS enter) is done after Round 2 (USLPro enter), so there could very well be some teams knocked out then. That should help keep the Cup as regionalized as possible until the latter stages.

With the MLS schedule out, time to guess the schedule dates for the LHUSOC? Here are the dates where no USA-based team plays in the midweek, starting June:

    June 9-11 [fifa international dates]

    June 16-18

    June 30-July 2

July 7-9 [concacaf gold cup; they COULD play the LHUSOC during the Gold Cup or international dates; just pointing these out]

    July 21-23 [concacaf gold cup]

July 28-30 [expect the All-Star game in this slot?]

    September 1-3 [fifa international dates]

    September 29-October 1

    October 20-22

With the NASL Fall schedule out, it looks like they scheduled at least one midweek game on most weeks, so the "no midweek games scheduled" theory is out the window: http://www.fifa.com/u20worldcup/teams/index.html

P.S.... and MLS did schedule the All-Star game for July 29.

Those mid-week NASL games don't start until July 8. There were only 2 NASL teams left by that date last year.

The NASL/MLS mid-week games in June, July, and August:

    June 2-4: 0 games/3 games (2 CAN teams)
    June 9-11: 0 games/0 games
    June 16-18: 0 games/0 games
    June 23-25: 0 games/7 games (2 CAN)
    July 1-2: 0 games/0 games
    July 7-9: 1 game/0 games
    July 14-16: 2 games (1 CAN)/1 game
    July 21-23: 1 game (1 CAN)/0 games
    July 28-30: 0 games/MLS All-Star game
    Aug 4-6: 3 games (1 CAN)/2 games (2 CAN)
    Aug 11-13: 1 game/1 game
    Aug 18-20: 1 game/2 games
    Aug 25-27: 1 game (1 CAN)/2 games

Dates with no games: June 9-11, June 16-18, July 1-2

Those are your mostly likely 4th-Quarterfinal rounds.

Dates with 1 game: July 7-9, July 21-23
And both of those are NASL games. The game on July 22 involves one Canadian team which reduces the chances of a conflict.

San Francisco City FC will host Stanislaus United Academica, looking to become the first team from San Francisco to qualify for the Open Cup in nearly 20 years. According to SFCFC, the winner will qualify for the 102nd edition of the Open Cup, but it is unclear if the US Club Soccer champion will begin play in a preliminary round or the first round.

The 2015 USL Pro schedule is out.

They don't have any mid-week games May 19-21 or May 26-28. That might be the 2nd and 3rd round dates.

If I had to guess, I'd say most USL Pro teams enter the tournament May 19-20, all or most NASL May 26-27, and most MLS June 9-11.

    Indeed you did.

Also, just noticed I have made an error in reporting the Play-In round participants.

USCS and USSSA representatives will be paired with the nearest USASA club located nearest to it (Damn USSSA and USASA being too similar *waves fist in anger*). These matches are single legged.

USCS is represented by San Francisco City FC. I believe the nearest USASA club is Cal FC (located in Thousand Oaks).

USSSA representative will be decided on March 15. Potential winners include:

Colorado Rovers/FC Denver/Harpos (All Colorado). Nearest USASA club I think will be KC Athletics (Kansas)
KC Kaiser Internationale/Mellow Mushroom (Both Florida). Nearest USASA club I think is Triangle Brigade (N Carolina)
Austin Thunder/Wickham FC (both Texas). Nearest USASA club I think is NTX Rayados (Texas)

Personally, I'm hoping Mellow Mushroom will win, solely because its an awesome name!

    Finally, some potential scheduling clashes:

    Last 16 (30/Jun-1/Jul): 4 USL PRO matches (RM/Sacramento, Wilmington/St Louis, Portland II/Arizona, OC/OKC)
    QF (21-22/Jul): 1 NASL (Ottawa v Atlanta)
    SF (11-12/Aug): 1 MLS (NYCFC v DC United) + 3 USL PRO (Harrisburg/Louisville, NYRBII/Charlotte, Tulsa/RM)

I still wonder why B-sides play in same competition as their first teams. Ridiculous.

In the south, all four won their regular season conferences, can't tell if Upward Stars had a championship game or not, but the other three (Miami, Tulsa, Chattanooga) also won their conference playoffs.

Last year, Tulsa got to host OKC Energy FC (lost 2-0), but this year will play another amateur team in the first round.
Come April 9th, I'd be surprised if the winner of NPSL Tulsa's first round game wouldn't be matched up against the expansion Tulsa Roughnecks.

The only newspaper coverage the Athletics are likely to get this year:

You do relive that Ottawa can't enter this tournament right ? They are a Canadian side not an US side thus they are ineligible to participate in the usoc sorry.

Yes, I am aware, and somewhat offended that you think I think they are!

For completeness, I listed all matches that involved US teams that could potentially clash with cup dates. I was going to put Ottawa in italics or a smaller font, but thought it was pretty obvious what I was doing...

In future, I will make sure to be explicitly clear what I am trying to achieve in my posts for your benifit. :D
