The first involvement with The Cup for MLS teams is tomorrow. #MLS enters the US @OpenCup with Thursday's 4th Round draw. Watch the unveil LIVE EXCLUSIVELY on 120 Sports, 7pm ET. pic.twitter.com/hSTEvXHYBx— Stadium (@Stadium) May 21, 2015 First match dates are June 16-17. Given the Union schedule, the 16th seems more likely.
Open Cup! Redemption!!! Beat 2 lower league sides (needing extra time) and a disinterested MLS side, and you're in the semis!
That doesn't bode well for Reading East if they meet up with Harrisburg (I don't buy that "we try not to make affiliates play" nonsense).
There ARE some lower level clubs that can take out disinterested MLS sides. Charleston Battery come to mind, historically.
That's not hostility. If I was hostile, I'd have it in all caps. Because that's how you do hostile on the internet. No, really, I have no idea what any of that means. I notice that half of the threads have that. Or other mysterious random letters. I just never really cared until now. Because my thread got (r)'d and I don't know why. Ooooooh. Ok. Now I know. Eventually I'll figure out what that pdp thing on the game threads means.
Being disposed of at home in the USOC final by a Cup specialist was probably the high water mark of this franchise. I don't expect a repeat this year.
Union will play either the Harrisburg City Islanders or the Rochester Rhinos in the fourth round. Union will host. #USOC2015— Philadelphia Soccer Now (@phlsoccernow) May 21, 2015
http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2015/02/04/us-soccer-102nd-edition-lamar-hunt-us-open-cup I guess that's not until the next round?
Sigh...I get why you would regionalize the thing, but it's going to be a pain if we play Harrisburg/Rochester every year.
Whats the point of having a draw if you are going to regionalize it. More than E/W, but into groups of 4. The same 4. Thats as random as the NBA Draft Lottery (for non NBA fans, they say it is random, I'm convinced its rigged). They might as well hand pick the match ups. Sounders2 vs. Timbers2 or Sounders vs. Timbers.... Never mind, they actually did that.
I think direct Ownership is the only thing prevented. ie: Real Monarchs can't draw Real Salt Lake, but DC United could draw Richmond. Potential Pairings through the Quarterfinals if I'm reading the bracket I saw correctly: 4th Round: Rochester (USL) Harrisburg (USL) 5th Round: NYC FC (MLS) NY Cosmos (NASL) Jersey Express (PDL) Quarterfinals: RB New York (MLS) Kansas City (MLS) Atlanta (NASL) Minnesota (NASL) St. Louis (USL) Chattanooga (NPSL)
