The Yankees won and clinched the playoffs. Sabathia got his 214th career win which is tied for the 89th most.
10,000th all-time franchise win. Thanks to blasts from Carlos Beltran (#19), Greg Bird (#11), Rob Refsnyder (#2). Alex Rodriguez was named one of the 3 finalists for the A.L. Comeback Player of the Year by the Players Association, along with Prince Fielder (Rangers) and Kendrys Morales (Royals). For the record, the N.L. selections are Matt Harvey (Mets), Carlos Gonzalez (Rockies), Joey Votto (Reds). The winners will be announced November 9. Yankee relief pitchers have 589 strikeouts, tying the Major League single-season record for the most strikeouts by any bullpen, set by the Colorado Rockies in 2012. Rangers 9, Angels 2 Diamondbacks 5, Astros 3 So the Wild Card game will be played at Yankee Stadium... No thanks to any efforts by the Yanks, who got swept by the O's to end the season. But the Rangers knocked the Angels out, and that put the Astros in as the second Wild Card team despite their loss to the D'Backs. The Yankees remained in the top Wild Card slot. Unbelievable!!! CC Sabathia Checks Into Alcohol Rehabilitation Center - ESPN http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/sto...ankees-checking-alcohol-rehabilitation-center New York Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia announced Monday that he is checking himself into an alcohol rehabilitation facility. "Today I am checking myself into an alcohol rehabilitation center to receive the professional care and assistance needed to treat my disease," Sabathia said in a statement. "I love baseball and I love my teammates like brothers, and I am also fully aware that I am leaving at a time when we should all be coming together for one last push toward the World Series. It hurts me deeply to do this now, but I owe it to myself and to my family to get myself right. I want to take control of my disease, and I want to be a better man, father and player." "As difficult as this decision is to share publicly, I don't want to run and hide," Sabathia said. "But for now please respect my family's need for privacy as we work through this challenge together."
Bad timing but, wouldn't that be why you're trying to get clean in the first place -hopefully no more weird behaviour?

yeah, although this is almost more bizarre since rehab is something that you have control over the timing/when you check yourself in. So this is kinda like punching yourself in the jaw on the eve of the NFL season.
I don't know his story, but if he is at what alcoholics call "rock bottom," then he has to check in now. I came across an article recently about Slade Heathcott. Apparently, at an earlier phase in his career, the Yankees were concerned that HE might drink himself to death. Ah, here it is... http://nypost.com/2015/05/20/slade-heathcotts-path-to-majors-took-more-turns-than-most/ On the day he seriously thought never would arrive as late as this past November, Slade Heathcott didn’t forget a person who helped him battle the alcohol abuse that threatened to end the former first-round draft pick’s career before it really got started. “Without Ron Dock, I don’t know where I would be,’’ Heathcott said of the Yankees’ intervention coordinator, who spent countless hours with Heathcott during the outfielder’s first three years in the organization after being taken in the 2009 draft. “Without him, I would not have gotten the chance to work with Sam Marsonek.’’ Marsonek, who pitched for the Yankees in 2004, beat a severe drinking problem with the help of religion. Seeing a need for Heathcott to work with someone who had been through it, Dock put Marsonek and Heathcott together. Given that his problems with alcohol were so severe that many in the organization feared for Heathcott’s life and through all the injuries that required surgery, seeing Heathcott in a Yankees big league uniform was a long shot..... The Yankees have an "intervention coordinator"? That might also explain the timing.

He's tied for the fewest games played with the Yankees other than 0. He was a pitcher who made his MLB debut on July 11, 2004 and has a 0.00 career ERA from 1 1/3 innings. After getting injured during the All-Star break, he never pitched in MLB again, so many fans probably don't remember him.

Yankees Trade Jose Pirela To Padres - N.Y. Post http://nypost.com/2015/11/11/yankees-use-jose-pirela-in-trade-with-padres/ The Yankees traded utility man Jose Pirela to the San Diego Padres on Wednesday in exchange for minor league right-hander Ronald Herrera, the team announced. Pirela, a right-handed hitter who plays around the diamond but is best at 2nd base, was passed on the depth chart by Rob Refsnyder at the end of the last season. His departure signals the Yankees’ increasing comfort with Refsnyder as part of a possible 2016 platoon with lefty Dustin Ackley. Herrera, 20, is not a highly regarded prospect. He posted a 4.08 ERA and 104 strikeouts in 145 2/3 innings (25 starts) last season between Single-A and Double-A. Because Herrera does not need to be placed on the 40-man roster, the Yankees clear one spot getting them down to 38.
Yankees Get Promising Twins Outfielder For Murphy - N.Y. Post http://nypost.com/2015/11/11/yankees-acquire-promising-twins-outfielder-aaron-hicks/ If the Yankees go ahead and trade Brett Gardner, they now have a replacement in waiting. If they don’t? Then they’ve given Joe Girardi another athletic piece on a team desperately in need of athleticism. The Yankees on Wednesday announced the acquisition of outfielder Aaron Hicks from the Twins in return for catcher John Ryan Murphy. It’s a deal that both gives the Yankees leeway to trade Gardner and offers a vote of confidence to Yankees catching prospect Gary Sanchez, who could be in line to succeed Murphy as Brian McCann’s backup. In 97 games with the Twins last season, after starting the season with Triple-A Rochester, Hicks compiled a .256/.323/.398 slash line. He started 87 games in center field and 4 in each corner, putting up strong metrics on the defensive side. A 1st-round selection (14th overall) in the 2008 amateur draft by the Twins, he earned much notice when he made the 2013 Twins’ Opening Day lineup after a strong spring training, only to flop and wind up back in the minor leagues. He repeated that pattern in 2014 before finally establishing himself in 2015. The switch-hitter performed particularly well against lefty pitchers, slashing .307/.375/.495 in 112 plate appearances. Hicks turned 26 last month. To succeed Murphy, the Yankees will take a good look at Sanchez, 23, who enjoyed a rebound season with Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barres and is currently tearing up the Arizona Fall League.
