Honduras should have no issues reverting this score at home to qualify to the Gold Cup. But, Pinto does have a lot of work to do, assuming he can hold on to the job long enough.
Even better for them: three Guianese players, including scorer Sloan Privat, have been sent home on the request of their clubs. Life as a non-FIFA member...
Interesting - I had never considered that non-FIFA teams would not enjoy the protection of FIFA requiring that clubs release players (and not be allowed to recall them) during international windows.
French Guiana complained about the lack of sleep last night cuz of all the noise, a wedding inside the hotel they were staying at, was making.
Honduras is for 12nd time in Gold Cup (record after Mexico and USA - 13rd times) Costa Rica and Canada are another nations with 12 times in final tournament. http://footballsize.com/honduras-survived-scare-to-qualify-for-gold-cup/
I just wanted to mention this here, since it's too early for a 2017 qualifying thread: I originally thought that the Copa Centroamericana and Caribbean Cup would have to go back to being played on non-FIFA dates with no available window in 2016. But the last time I looked at the FIFA calendar, there will be FIFA days in October 2016, between the end of the semifinal round of WCQ and the beginning of the Hex. The Copa Centroamericana could be played in that window without a problem; the CFU, OTOH, would have to figure out whether to set the finals in that month, and if so, when to schedule the qualifying rounds.
I think there are FIFA matchdays every October. England has played at least one World Cup or Euro qualifier every October from 2000 to 2014. If the Copa Centroamericana is played in October 2016, any UNCAF countries that reach the Hexagonal will not be able to play any friendlies on FIFA matchdays in between the Semifinals and the Hexagonal. As for CFU, if the Copa America 2016 isn't played or is played without any CFU countries, the Caribbean Cup could have qualifying in June 2016. 26 countries played in Caribbean Cup 2014 and/or its qualifiers. Here's a hypothetical format for Caribbean Cup 2016 and its qualifying if 26 teams enter: Qualifying Round 1: March 2016 during the WCQ Semifinals 20 countries in 5 groups of 4 (if fewer than 26 countries enter, there could be groups of 3; if more than 26 countries enter there would need to be a sixth group) The 5 winners and best 3 second place teams advance (4 groups of 5 with the Top 2 in each group advancing might work better but would take too many matchdays) Qualifying Round 2: June 2016 8 teams advancing from Qualifying Round 1 and 4 teams starting here 3 groups of 4 The Top 2 in each group advance Caribbean Cup: October 2016 6 teams advancing from Qualifying Round 2 and 2 teams starting here (Jamaica as defending champions and the host) All four CFU teams in the WCQ Semifinals would have to start in the Caribbean Cup or Qualifying Round 2, which is possible. If the Caribbean Cup host is not Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Haiti, or St. Vincent and the Grenadines, then Trinidad and Tobago, Haiti, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and one more country would start in Qualifying Round 2. If the Caribbean Cup host is one of Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Haiti, or St. Vincent and the Grenadines, there would be two additional spots for countries starting in Qualifying Round 2. If the Caribbean Cup host is Jamaica, the defending champion, then the most recent second place team, Trinidad and Tobago, could start in the Caribbean Cup.
Mind you, according to the 2013 Gold Cup regulations (and assuming CONCACAF's current administration upholds these rules), the Caribbean FAs that sat out the last Caribbean Cup have to play in this one, or they face suspension from CONCACAF.
