The tie went into extra time after finishing 1-1 after 90 minutes. The key moment came in the 117th minute which saw an amazing sequence of Gamba nearly gifting Urawa the lead on a mis-hit back pass then racing to the other side of the pitch to score the winner. "15 seconds of chaos", indeed. Gamba netted another in injury time to win the semifinal, 3-1.
Not in my opinion. The J. League has been struggling a bit. A large number of quality Japanese players has left the league to play in Europe and the high profile foreigners bound for Asia are now more drawn to the Chinese Super League. So quality drain all around and that has been reflected in continental play. It could be a few more years before we see another Japanese ACL winner. The K-League faces the same issues but the domestic player exodus hasn't been quite as drastic.
Big loss for Auckland as Ivan Vicelich won't recover in time from injury: http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/footba...ich-for-fifa-club-world-cup-but-remain-upbeat Despite his age he held this team together. That's a significant blow for the Navy Blues in their quest to shock the world of club football once again. In other news River Plate failed to win a second Copa Sudamericana in a row as they lost in the semis to domestic rivals Huracan. The second leg of the final would have been on the 9th, just days before the CWC semifinal.
@jared9999 I see that Club America made the Liguilla semis. If they make the final - when is the last game? Looks like CA and the J. League winner could be playing for the domestic league championship right up until their first CWC match, with just days separating the two. Not ideal from preparation point of view.
The Mexican league has had it for a while now that if a Mexican CCL winner makes it to the Final, it will be postponed for when they get back from the CWC. So América would play for the Mexican title somewhere around Christmas.
Semis are going to be played this week. If the Ferrari makes the final, the first leg of the liga mx final is the 23rd of next month. 2nd leg the 27th
In other words, zero excuses for Club America. They are in form, have sufficient time to prepare and haven't had a long layoff between domestic league and CWC.
As predicted, Robinho and Alan are selected into the 23-member, final squad. Rene Junior is out. I am not going to repeat what I already wrote about them.
J. League Final Series - First Leg: Gamba Osaka - Sanfrecce Hiroshima 2:3 Sanfrecce scored equalizer and winner in stoppage time. This looks tough for Gamba to turn around. Do away goals apply? Second leg is on Saturday in Hiroshima. Time to get your geek on. Found the 2015 CWC statistical kit: http://resources.fifa.com/mm/docume.../67/91/87/statskit_fcwc2015_event_neutral.pdf
Rosters out for the six continental champions: http://www.fifa.com/clubworldcup/ne...ists-released-for-club-world-cup-2741686.html Looks like TP Mazembe has the least amount of domestic players with only six.
Doesn't look like Liga MX will have this issue. Club America lost the first leg 3:0 at home to city rivals Pumas UNAM. And just concluded... Sanfrecce Hiroshima held a 1:1 draw at home and will be the host club this year.
