I would imagine in the long term the biggest competition for Guangzhou will come from other Chinese clubs. There's a lot of money in China and I'm sure other teams in other cities will attempt to replicate what Guangzhou is doing. Not only will they be competing for local talent, but I'm sure they will also have the money to go after high profile foreigners.

In a way Guangzhou, like Goa in India, are anomalies: colonized by the Portuguese, they got their love of soccer from them. But the rest of India and China are unlikely to follow in the passion for the time being.

Stick to what you know... which is just Bosta. Tiraste gas, abandonaste... lo duspendiste por que no tenes aguante... Mas since you are a peronist... You realize you lost CABA, Provinvia, and the Country? Must suck to be a peronist nowadays. Macri may be a boca fan, but he won his election thanks to river fans. Just look at the numbers in zona norte vs. zona zur

Third place match about to start. The pressure is on Guangzhou in this one.

[Edit] And Guangzhou takes the lead after just four minutes. Paulinho.

Sanfrecce has Guangzhou against the ropes. I have no idea how they haven't finished them yet, still 1-1.

PS: And Sanfrecce makes it 2-1, finally. Guangzhou had no gas left for the second half. All three goals scored by Brazilians (Paulinho for GZE, Douglas twice for SFC).

Clear penal on Kashiwa not given. GZE trying to react but they're done. Amazing that after six games in 17 days, Sanfrecce players are still running, while the Chinese team looks exhausted.

Congrats to Sanfrecce as they take third. They have definitely been the surprise of the tournament, curious how they will do in the 2016 ACL. Guangzhou Evergrande can't be happy with this. They completely lost the plot in the second half and I blame part of that on Scolari. Elkeson should have stayed on the field. Same for Goulart.

Why does Scolari keep substituting the Brazilian players? Robinho hasn't been on the field for a single minute since the first half against America. What exactly has he done to be in the doghouse? Why even put him on the CWC roster?

Next to Goa the sport also enjoys popularity in Kerala (52,000 average in ISL) and West Bengal. But at this point India is miles behind China in every aspect. It's no comparison really. The CSL now has eight clubs that average 20,000 plus - that's half of the league. The CSL also sold its domestic TV rights for USD 1.25 billion for the next five years. For you to compare, that's close to triple the amount MLS gets per season until 2022. Point being, it's time to take China serious. They have laid a proper foundation and Guangzhou Evergrande had a lot to do with it.

Good news: both Messi and Neymar will start for Barcelona in the final.

Usually Sanfrecce does not well in the ACL as they always use the B team for the ACL. So I do not expect much for
the next tournament either. The priority of Sanfrecce is to win the league title and not the ACL and for this goal
they mostly rest their main players in the ACL.

HT: River Plate - FC Barcelona 0:1

Messi put Barcelona ahead with his individual brilliance in a first half where River tried to disrupt the flow as much as possible. Now that Barcelona have broken through I don't see River finding a way back into this game.

Messi is now tied with Cesar Delgado (Monterrey) as best all-time CWC scorer with five goals.
Perhaps this CWC will wet their appetite for international competition. The J. League in general has to lay aside all excuses to counter its perceived descent. It's been seven years since a Japanese club won the ACL and quite frankly I don't see a title anytime soon.

But this isn't the thread for that discussion.

No one can say that Gallardo didn't do what he could in this one - All threes subs used by minute 56, all geared towards getting ball forward.

3:0 Suarez. He is now also tied with Messi and Delgado at five goals. With only one CWC played.

Something tells me we will have a new record scorer by the end of this match. All River can do now is hope that they don't set a new record of highest defeat ever (currently at a four-goal difference)
