I don't know. What would be more appealing, playing in front of 10,000 as opposed to 2000 to 3000, and in a brand new state of the art soccer facility, when completed. Might be tempting.
Nope. Portland does have another trade in the works, and I'm thinking maybe it's for one of them. (The last clause is "just kidding.")
There was no doubt that CRS were going to protect Johnston and Press. Chalupny more then likely could be retiring to concentrate on coaching. I would love to have her around a couple more years to captain this team. Also, don't forget Taryn Hemmings has her own cosmetic company that she started with Leslie Osborne, Courtney Jones and Lindsay Tarpley, and I wouldn't be surprised if she decided to retire. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/sweat-cosmetics-for-active-beauty#/ Adriana Leon, will probably be picked up by Orlando. Not sure about Tancredi as from my understanding she is now a Chiropractor, so depending on here business/career is how her soccer decisions will go, IMO. Red Stars were not about to risk the chance of losing one of the new kids, Colaprico, Gilliland, Huerta - protected. As for Brittany Bock, I'm still hoping she decides to play for her hometown team. But I have seen no response concerning the pickup by the Red Stars on her Twitter.
So who will Orlando pick from the Red Stars? Chalupny may and probably will retire (sigh). Tancredi is now a Chiropractor from what I understand, in Chicago (may be wrong). I have a strange feeling that Hemmings may retire to focus on her business.?? Otherwise, IMO, CRS would have protected her. Why else would she not be protected over Mautz? Just a guess. I don't think they will be interested in Brittany Bock, Michelle Dalton, Lomnicki, Luba, Morway, Brock or Walls. So that leaves a possibility of Quon, Bywaters, Leon or Erceg. My guess: Adriana Leon Abby Erceg
A lot of mock drafts I saw had Hemmings, so I'm not entirely surprised. I am surprised, though, that CHI only lost one player. There were lots of opportunities there.
Most surprised that they didnt take Gorry. As no KC players were picked I guess Hagen covered everyone. Also a bit surprised they took Levin over Hayes from SkyBlue
I think Orlando wants to be competitive their first season and wants players to do that not move for picks and younger players.
http://chicagoredstars.com/red-star...fourth-round-pick-in-2017-nwsl-college-draft/ I love Engen when she played for the Red Stars in the WPS days. She was, IMO often the best player on the field. Engen will make a great tandem with Julie Johnston. Now, I just hope that this is true that we will have Johnston, Press, Engen for all of 2016.
Unless the US doesn't qualify for the Olympics, I can guarantee the Red Stars lose Johnston for some time. Press is a maybe, since we have a very forward-heavy roster, and I think Engen is a maybe as well - but I'd still put losing all three for some time at least at 50/50.
The real question is how does Ellis use her alternate spots. I personally dont see her leaving WC players home to give those spots to young players. If Engen doesnt make the 18 I still think she goes as next defender because most of the cover is at outside back and Rampone has been injury prone recently.
I love this trade for all kinds of reasons, but one thing about pairing Engen w/ JJ - I think this is a real boost for Whitney's NT prospects. If Ellis is real considering Broon at DM then this is an excellent chance for Engen to elevate her profile and show that she and JJ can be a terrific pairing at CB.
http://chicagoredstars.com/head-coach-dames-talks-trades-2016-draft-fatherhood/ Couple big signings supposedly coming soon.
Well if ur a conspiracy theorist it was interesting that Dames never mentioned Whitney Egen, even tho he just traded for the USNT center back. He talked about the players he traded away and about Sam Johnson at CB.
Also Chicago have never really acknowledged Engen on social media as you would expect when one signs a NT defender. All signs point to her not staying in Chicago
You guys are correct. I thought the same thing. They announced the trade on their web site but have not twittered anything about her. IMO, there should be more excitement by a team about acquiring a USWNT player. I would love to see Engen back in a Red Stars uniform but I am afraid that she may be dealt somewhere else for maybe a goalkeeper. Like Bledsoe, for example. From what I've read, Whitney Engen grew up playing with Christen Press, and her best friend in college was Ashlyn Harris. We'll see.
Yes...that's a good thought. A lot of people were wondering why Orlando would take a second keeper in the draft. Maybe it's Engen for Hemmings and Bledsoe.
Short term it favors Chicago but long term it favors Orlando because quality CBs r hard to find and after a short campaign this year they will have her full time.
I personally rate Engen and Hemmings the same and when it comes to the Redstars, I don't see much that Engen would have brought that Hemmings doesn't bring. The only difference is one of them is free for now. Throw in an up and comer like Bledsoe and Chicago is set on the keeper side. If Chicago wants to get both Bledsoe and Hemmings, I can see them sending a first or second round pic along with Engen.
