Were Miyaichi to be called into the national team I think he'd be the fastest player on the team alongside Nagai. Plus he is good in the air, standing 183cm (i.e. the same as Hiroki Sakai).
He has recorded the fastest velocity in the entire 2. Bundesliga this season and would have come close to the top speed of the 1. Bundesliga last season. So it's safe to say he is one of the fastest players in Germany at the least. In addition he has done a lot of strength work over the years and is a formidable header of the ball these days, so overall a better all-around athlete.
Ryo says that the work he has put in on running technique/form during rehab has actually made him faster than before. ("脚が速くなっているんですよ!")
In my opinion, he is not the tricky winger he used to be. Not beat man repeatedly with speed, nowadays he only sprint when its is clear that he can beat the defender. However, his stamina is better, challenge better in the air, his finishing is better. His passing is not as good as other younger winger like Nakajima, Ritsu Doan or Kubo. But I thinh it worth a try to use him as a full back in an attacking set up like Japan National team. He can be the Japanese Bellerin.
It's really cool to see that after all the injury turmoil, he's finally coming into his own in terms of health and consistency, and people are just starting/trying to figure out how best to utilize him. I think a lot of people wrote him off for a couple of years, so good for him.
At the end of the day Miyaichi will start his JNT career when his former team mates (Kagawa, Honda, Nagatomo etc) will end it.
He did: Miyaichi's assist. Absolutely rapid as per. pic.twitter.com/e7D8GZ36uB— J.League Stats (@J1tokei) February 1, 2020
Miyaichi has earned the second most playing time among St. Pauli players. No one can call him an injury prone player anymore.
He’s learned German pretty well. Made it through the first half of the interview before switching to English.
