Muto: " I wanted to keep my expectation realistic and play for a team that fits my level." http://www1.skysports.com/football/...muto-reveals-reasons-for-turning-down-chelsea
Pre season preparations start on June 27th for Mainz (fitness test on that day and training starting on 29th). But I'd think he can stay at Tokyo for the last match of the first stage on that same day.
hm, that'd mean that he wouldn't take any break though... I wonder if Mainz won't allow him to join a bit later?
Muto is the second player who made double digits with his goals scored in two straight seasons after his debut in J League. The other guy is Shoji Jo.

However, he still needs to take a German language course, as do the other players who don't speak the language well yet." (De Blasis, Jara, Diaz, Park, Okazaki)

Nagatomo breathed well in Cesena and move to Inter at half season. I hope the same for Muto. Maybe BvB, why not?
Because Inter had a dire fullback situation with Chivu (eww) and the adapted Zanetti being the "regular" sidebacks (apart from Maicon on the opposite side), so it fit well for him. Whose place would he steal in BVB right now? I really don't know. At the moment, I'm actually just hoping for him to perform well... it's not like it's guaranteed.
Well its not like Schmelzer have been doing fantastically well the last 2 seasons. Struggled with injuries as well, and havent really looked as strong as he used to. They could need extra cover there actually , as they have been forced to use out-of-position players like Kuba and Grosskreuts on the sidebacks earlier. And Nagatomo is arguably better than Schmelzer going forward.

Ah so that's why he's also taking his time to join Mainz's preseason... (jk, obviously he needs a rest)
no lol that was teioh, I think there was a misunderstanding here: This was merely an answer as to why Nagatomo was able to snatch a place relatively quickly in Inter. Of course it's his own merit, but it was also a favourable situation This is me wondering whose place would Muto grab in BVB. Seems hard to imagine. And, he hasn't shown anything yet
