With the Gold Cup over and the Fall World Cup qualifiers right around the corner, I have started to think where would it be best to hold the Road to Brazil sendoff celebration matches. Last time around we saw East Hartford and Philadelphia. I am hoping at least one is in DC as would it not be great to have one last big celebration at RFK before hopefully the new stadium goes up at Buzzard Point. I think New York would be great too as the countries biggest media market, no better way than that to get the buzz really going. I know some people would want at least one on the west coast, maybe if they play three like they did in 2006 being Nashville, Cleveland and East Hartford. So what do you all think?
I think Chester / Philly should get one. They did not get a World Cup Qualifying match nor a Gold Cup match.
My guess is Nashville will likely get one. They got a Send off Series game back in 2005, a WCQ in 2009 and nothing in 2013. Given there have been no matches in the Southeast I'd put money on Nashville.
Not a bad guess on Nashville. I also remember a thread around hear talking about a possible game against England in Miami. So Philly area, Tennessee, Miami area seem to be the three favorites to host send-off matches in my book. Then fly from Miami to Brazil for a friendly there.
I'm definitely thinking Miami gets one for the logistics. I hope DC gets one but I'm not tripping if we don't. But I would imagine that it's somewhere in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and then to Miami before they head off to Brazil.
Also, there was a rumor a while back that we would have a send-off match vs. England in Miami as long as both teams had qualified for the World Cup, and were not drawn into the same group
Not a rumor in terms of sites, but in terms of who our opponent might be, assuming we're not drawn into their group of course @goaleric4h Via @arieljudas: Argentina rumored to play two friendlies in US (NY/NJ, LA) before WC. One of the opponents would be #USMNT
I would suggest if that is correct the US match would make more sense for NYC leg of the two game trip.
Was in the other forum that we'll be hosting BiH in St. Louis if we both qualify. I absolutely hope Miami happens as well.
This is what I see too. New York and Miami I think are locks. 3rd site somewhere in between, could be DC or Nashville. POSSIBLY Chicago, but I don't see it. No way we fly out west for a game when we have to get back to Miami anyway.
I think if every suggested comes to life, the ideal order of the send off series would be St. Louis vs. Bosnia, New York vs. Argentina and Miami vs. England before jetting off south to Brazil from there.
@AndresCantorGOL32m Marca newspaper is reporting that there might be a Spain vs US match in the making for the November FIFA match date
have to play a game on the east coast before brazil whether its a send off or not east coast has gotten robbed last two years
Don't believe Brazil does Daylight Savings Time (or if they do, they don't do it the same time of the year as we do) so at the moment they are one hour ahead of the Eastern Time Zone. Something to keep in mind.
It may also depend on who is drawn into our Group. We may want to play teams who's style most emulates the teams we are facing. Also whoever gets Mexico's Group may want to play us.
Yeah, we're a ways away from the send-off games being announced. There are March friendlies that still haven't been finalized.
The Stars and Stripes final send off match on US Soil on May 29,2010 in Philadelphia vs. Turkey was announced on Feb. 18, just to give you some idea for a possible timeline.
Rumor now is Red Bull Arena, somewhere in Florida, and a 3rd site: http://soccer.si.com/2014/01/29/usmnt-us-mens-national-team-world-cup-red-bull-arena/
