Alright!! I'm not the only one that thought this! That might also explain some of the interesting passes directly to an opposing player with no teammate in the area.
Kinda feel for the Railhawks folk. 5-2 was a little rough, and flatters Dallas a little. The last two goals were breakaways as Carolina were trying to get back into the game. Make no mistake, Dallas was the better side, but it wasn't a 3 goal difference. I do hope not too many of them got their hopes up after beating Chivas USA and LA - Dallas usually takes the USOC more seriously.
Lamar Hunt US Open Cup July 9 FT Atlanta Silverbacks 1 - 3 Chicago Fire FT Carolina RailHawks 2 - 5 FC Dallas AET Seattle Sounders FC 3 - 1 Portland Timbers
Yeah, as a Dallas fan I was happy to see us get the two late goals because Carolina was using all their subs for offensive firepower. They could just as easily have snatched a tying goal. The fourth goal was earned by Dallas counter-attacking an over-committed Carolina side and (finally) putting away the chance. After that, Carolina just gave up, and the fifth goal was Carolina lollygagging. Much better awareness from Castillo up front than we usually get out of him. I hope that continues.
Cross posting from MLS discussion on US Open Cup, for those here who might be interested in my ELO model.
Here's a clip of Philadelphia Union's Sebastien Le Toux scoring his 14th career US Open Cup goal, a new record in the modern pro era.
first-ever title game in the Union’s five-year history will be held on Sept. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at PPL Park against the winner of tonight’s USOC Seattle-Chicago semifinal contest.
Why Starfire for a Cup semi in the one city that can basically sell as many tickets as it prints? (I know the semis were there in 2009-2012 as well, just curious.)
Ah, did not know that, thanks. It's a parking issue, right? That was not the case in 2009 or 2012, though.
I guess it is parking/downtown congestion. They are not allowed to have games in both stadiums at the same time. That might not be the reason why they are using Starfire specifically but it is probably a factor.
