latest news reports suggest the games will be held in 2013 in Indonesia. In terms of football, would be a good tournament if most Islamic state nations enter there national team.
I don't think a lot of senior teams will enter this competition. 2013 is jammed with a lot of different competitions: WCQ, Asian Cup Qualifying, African Cup of Nations, Challenge Cup, et al.
I don't know how Indonesia could host. Football wise, the country is in such a mess and it really won't be long now until FIFA have to step in. Any nation expecting a smoothly run tournament in Indonesia would be out of their minds. But would like to see the competition back in some form.
I've had a quick google search and found a thread here, so looks like preperation is underway http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?s=d91ae6decdde5300bbe4bead09543942&t=1459816&page=7
The bigger nations will most probably send a young team out but for lesser known Asian nations, would be a good test and good match experience for them
The games will be held in October http://www.namnewsnetwork.org/v3/read.php?id=MjI2MzQ0 All games will be held in the riau main stadium http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_Islamic_Solidarity_Games#section_1
The football side of the games should be interesting hopefully most of the islamic states do attend, should be an interesting one...
Saudi will be sending a team comprising of players of the First Division..No players from the premier league will be playing in the team.
so basically 2nd division players will represent Saudi in the games? Why not just send Saudi U20s or u17s in preperation for the AFC Youth Qualifications to be played probably at the end of the year... Pretty stupid to send 2nd division players
"The Games which was supposed to be held in Pekanbaru, the capital of Indonesia's Riau province, from June 6-17 has been moved to a further date following "technical reasons"." "The Games have been tentatively rescheduled to take place in October after the holy month of Ramadhan and Aidilfitri celebrations in July and August respectively." http://www.bt.com.bn/sports-national/2013/04/20/riau-games-delay-blessing-disguise-brunei
Just in time for the AFC Youth qualifiers, a great reason to send a young team to the tournement.. Saudi's are just played stupid for sending 2nd tier players instead of giving their youth a run.
So much potential to have Islamic games worldwide.. but its unfortunate that no one can get it working..
The problem is so many events lined up. The sport tourism industry is increasing. East asian games, Olympics, South Asian games, Commonwealth games hamper the other events. Countries will go for the games where they can get pride. Islamic games will need more time and proper timing for the event to take place. The committe should be strong and influential.
What Muslim country has qualified for the World Cup? I haven't heard anything about Afghanistan qualifying...but I do hope Afghanistan qualifies for the World Cup. Your country has been wartorn for far too long. It would be cooler if Afghanistan got it over Qatar.
