Sporting Kansas City (USA) San Jose Earthquakes (USA) Quakes already looking forward to '13-14 "adventure" Win it all? Big words from a team that has accomplished nothing at the international level so far.
The next two spots in the USA go to the MLS Cup finalists, but since the regular season is now over, we can see who gets the hand-me-down spots if San Jose and/or Kansas City make the MLS Cup. third overall: DC United at 58 points. fourth overall: New York, Chicago, and Salt Lake tied at 57 points. By the MLS tie-breakers, goals-for is New York (57), with Chicago and Salt Lake tied (46). By the goal-differential method, New York and Salt Lake are tied (+11), with Chicago third (+5). NY would then get the nod due to GF. By the head-to-head method (my personal preference), the game results are: march-17, Salt Lake [2-0] New York may-9, Chicago [0-0] Salt Lake june-17, Chicago [3-1] New York july-18, New York [1-0] Chicago october-6, New York [0-2] Chicago So the breakdown is: (1) Salt Lake: 4 pts in 2 games, 2.00 ppg (2) Chicago: 7 pts in 4 games, 1.75 ppg (3) New York: 3 pts in 4 games, 0.75 ppg
All 4 USA MLS teams are in Sporting Kansas City (USA) San Jose Earthquakes (USA) Houston Dynamo (USA) LA Galaxy (USA) In Mexico there will be at least 1 team that has never played in the CCL format before (America, Tijuana or Leon). Toluca played in a CCL a few years ago.
Panama Looks like it may also have a new team 4 Semifinalist Árabe Unido (Prior CCL experience if I remember correctly) Plaza Amador Río Abajo Chepo
They finished last in their group in 2010-2011. In 2009-2010 they finished second in their group and lost 4-0 on aggregate to Cruz Azul in the Quarterfinals.

I hope Olimpia win for the sake of the CCL. Victoria will have its team dismantled after this torneo.

Something to think about Copa Libertadores final will be played after the Confederations cup some time in July, the CCL also starts in July; so if Tijuana/Toluca does make the Libertadores final, they would not have a break in between and will pretty much go from Libertadores straight to CCL.

Caribbean qualification starts Friday, ends Tuesday. Two groups of four teams, group winners qualify to CCL, runners-up go to Playoff round to determine third Caribbean team. Jamaica returns to CFU Cup and to CCL, very likely to see at least one Jamaican team in Group stage. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_CFU_Club_Championship
It says that the Haiti Champion and 3rd place will go, but not the 2nd place team. Pretty strange and unfair. Also, the T&T runner-up had to withdraw due to $$: http://newsday.co.tt/sport/0,159777.html Perhaps that's also the reason why FICA, Haiti's 2nd place, isn't playing. Interesting that the Guyanese League didn't send a team, even though they had one, Alpha United, make it to the CCL recently.
Shame that CONCACAF takes almost no care about this competition. I would make a rule that champion of each CFU league is obligated to participate in CFU Cup and that all regulations must be known month before kickoff. This what happened this year is both ridiculous and disguisting. Teams that did not take part did it because of money issues.
Became known to have 2 teams made their way into the Champions League. They are: W Connection from Trinidad and Tobago and Valencia from Haiti. Another one participant from CFU will be determined later in the confrontation between Caledonia AIA (Trinidad and Tobago) and Portmore United (Jamaica).
This seems like a big step forward. http://www.concacaf.com/page/ConfederationDetail/0,,12813~3161602,00.html
Olimpia have already clinched their spot as Honduras #1, whoever makes it to the final with Olimpia (if they make it to the final) will be Honduras #2, or who ever wins the Final (if Olimpia doesn't qualify to the final) will be Honduras #2.
I'm cool with the optional entry, because expanding it to all CFU league champions would make it a pretty big tournament. The only way to do it cheaply at that point would be to have all 31 league champions, plus a bonus team from a host country, and have a 32-team one-leg knockout tournament over the course of...2 weeks or so. Actually, that tournament would be amazing. I'm all for it.
It would be similar to the UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds where 39 or 40 champions (depending on if the defending champion qualifies through league position) compete for five spots in the Group Stage. Unlike UEFA, CONCACAF doesn't have coefficients to use to determine who plays who, and I think there would be big margins of victory if the top CFU clubs played clubs from Anguilla, Montserrat, Turks and Caicos Islands, etc. in the Round of 32.
