Rochester Rhinos News Release -- www.rhinossoccer.com

    Tuesday, February 22, 2011
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- With the training camp scheduled to begin next month, the Rochester Rhinos announced that they have added two players to their roster. Joining the club are midfielder Brad Stisser and defender Will Traynor.
[IMG]Stisser, a 24-year old native of California, played with AC St. Louis in 2010 where he scored five goals in 24 appearances. Prior to joining St. Louis, Stisser played collegiate soccer at Loyola Marymount after transferring as a sophomore from Coastal Carolina in 2006. While in college, he was a member of the Colorado Rapids U-23’s (2007-08) and the Real Colorado Foxes (2009) of the Premier Development League (USL).

He was a Colorado All-State selection and named the state’s Best of the Best by the Rocky Mountain News during his senior season at Highlands Ranch High School.

“Brad is a left sided attacking player who can play in the middle or out wide on the left” said Rhinos Head Coach Bob Lilley. “He is somebody who has a good engine and is capable of scoring and setting up goals.

Traynor is a graduate of the University of South Carolina where played four seasons with the Gamecocks. The 6’2” defender was a Sports and Entertainment major and was a four-time Conference USA Academic All-Star while at South Carolina. He was awarded the conference’s Commissioner’s Academic Medal awarded to student athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher.

“Will is a player that started all four years at South Carolina and has good size and good athleticism” said Lilley. ‘He has very good feet playing out of the back and reads the game very well. He will also add a physical dimension on the back.”

Home Opening Wins Have Foxes on top of Heartland Division
and in the Hunt for the US Open Cup Berth
The Real Colorado Foxes opened up the 2011 US Open Cup qualifying round & USL – Premier Development League season with a huge 4-1 win at Colorado College’s Washburn Field on Saturday night followed closely with a 3-2 victory over the visiting Kansas City Brass for a home series sweep at Shea Stadium.

Saturday’s game, which was held at Colorado College as a neutral site match in order to help promote regional awareness of the team, Real Colorado got on the boards in the 15th minute with a goal from Drew Beckie, who recently spent time in the Canadian U-23 National Team Camp, to only be answered minutes later by Kyle Greig of the Brass which rounded out scoring in the first half. The Foxes came out the 2nd half smelling blood with a three goal run from Julian Donaldson and Kyle

Christensen, including a spectacular bicycle goal from just outside the 18.
On Sunday, the Foxes marked their official home opener with a second win over Kansas City in the same many day before 300 REAL fans with goals from Kellen Christiansen, Craig Thompson (With MLS’ DC United in ’08), and Joey Madison to take a 3-0 lead by the 65th minute. But KC wasn’t dead yet, given a pulse with two goals from Ricardo Yeverino to pull within 1. Yet, the Foxes found a way to hold on to the win for their fans.

Both victories were crucial for the Foxes, not only to get off to a good start this season, but also toward their success on getting into the US Open Cup as the first 4 games of the USL season double as qualifying matches where only the top team in each PDL division are given a berth in the tournament proper.

The Foxes head east this weekend to take on the Springfield Demize and St. Louis Lions as they look to create some separation between their rivals, the Des Moines Menace (2-0-0), from their 1st place position with some much desired road points in the young season and earn their first ever berth into the US Open Cup.

Next home games for the Real Colorado Foxes will be 7PM on Saturday, June 4th and 3PM on Sunday, June 5th at Shea Stadium in Highlands Ranch. Team, Group, Half Season and Single Game tickets are available online now at http://www.rcfoxes.com or at the Shea Stadium Box Office day of the match.

ABOUT THE FOXES: Preparing for their 3rd season as Colorado’s Premier Soccer Team, the Real Colorado Foxes compete in the 64-team Premier Development League (PDL), the highest amateur level of the United Soccer Leagues (USL). The PDL is a training ground for nurturing many of our nation’s future stars, operating as a feeder system to Major League Soccer (MLS), and professional leagues around the world. The Foxes play their home matches in a fun, family-friendly environment at Shea Stadium in Highlands Ranch.

Foxes are for Real: Clinch Their First US Open Cup Berth

Foxes are for Real: Clinch Their First US Open Cup Berth

    May 26th, 2011

The Real Colorado Foxes, after finishing the qualifying round undefeated, punched their first ticket into the oldest tournament in the United States: the US Open Cup.
Though sporting an impressive 4-0 run during qualifying phase, the Open Cup berth was still not a sure thing as the Des Moines Menace were poised to qualify with a 3-0 start and the all important tiebreaker (a better goal differential) going into their final match, but found themselves on the wrong side of a 2-1 scoreline at the Kansas City Brass on May 25.
The Foxes hope to be selected as the host for their first ever US Open Cup match, as they wait for the first round brackets to be drawn for the US Open Cup, which begins June 14.

Foxes ‘Hot’ in the Playoff Hunt:

Look to Shake Off the ‘Chill’ in Thunder Bay & Lose the ‘Menace’ of Des Moines

    July 17th, 2011

After playing “King of the Hill” in the USL’s Premier Development League (PDL) Heartland Division for the first 11 games of a 16 game season, the Real Colorado Foxes found themselves faced with the ultimatum of taking 6 points on a 2 game road swing through Kansas City to all but secure a playoff spot in 2011.

The Foxes came; they saw; and then kicked some Brass. Taking the match Friday by a margin of 4 to 1; followed by a 1-0 shutout Saturday to complete the sweep of the four game, home and away series between the two clubs.

Now, it’s time for the moment of truth as the Foxes look to head north of the border to play the Thunder Bay Chill and not only avenge the 4-1 loss (the only regular season loss for the Foxes in 2011 to date) they suffered on their final home game, but secure a playoff spot and keep home field advantage within reach.

Easier said than done for the Foxes, though currently back in first place (35 points), they are closely followed by the Thunder Bay Chill (34 points) and the Des Moines Menace (30 points) who all have 2 games remaining to be played this weekend. And with 6 points on the table for all, there is still plenty to turn the tables for any of these clubs to clinch one of the two open playoff spots for the Heartland Division.

Per United Soccer League PDL Rules: “Two berths from each division will be available for 16 total across the league. The divisional representatives will meet for conference tournaments the weekend after the season concludes with the top seed from each division playing the runners-up from the opposite division. The four conference champions will advance to a Final Four championship tournament the following weekend hosted by one of the four participants.”
