Would it be illegal for play for one country as a woman and another as a man? :D

It gets even more intriguing when you realise that she is a naturalised Burkinabè, and that her also-naturalised sister (Bilguisa Simpore) is also on the team and was also accused of being a man...

You wonder how they find enough time to play the games with all the accusations and such.

In 2009 it was announced FIFA and CAF would to do gender testing for the tournament but I don't believe it panned out. There have been references to menstruation (i.e. below), but FIFA was looking into bone fusion to see if it was as determinant in girls as boys as a marker.

That quote is from an interesting piece on 'intersex' Nigerian Bessy Ekaete Boniface who "requires other investigations, surgery and hormone therapy to put her in perfect condition." And for whom an organization "has begun an effort to raise the ₦2 million ($13,514 USD) for the surgery she'll need to [qualify as female] play at the pro and international level."

There is something very wrong here, and it's not Ekaete.

Ghana have dominated possession, but Cameroon have made their limited opportunities count.

Although Algeria still have a match to play, this loss has eliminated them from contention for World Cup qualification.

Ghana had plenty of good chances in the second half, but squandered them all.

Cameroon are now strong favorites to qualify for the World Cup.

unless there's some upsets in the mext matches, we're likely looking at a semifinals set-up of Nigeria vs. Equatorial Guinea & South Africa vs. Cameroon.

I wouldn't say Cameroon would be strong favourites against either South Africa at home, or Nigeria. I hope I am completely wrong.

Ghana could still beat Equatorial Guinea - I don't think that would be classed as an upset at all.

Cameroon did beat South Africa 2-0 in a friendly just a couple of months ago.

Moreover, South Africa's shaky victory over Tanzania suggests they are reverting to their tendency to underperform in the spotlight at home.

With today's results, Nigeria won the group and South Africa took second. Both secured a place in the semifinals.

It's still possible that we won't have any new teams from Africa in the World Cup.

If Ghana beat Equatorial Guinea, and Cameroon fail to beat Algeria, then it would be Nigeria v Cameroon/Equatorial Guinea and South Africa v Ghana, meaning that Nigeria and Ghana could both go through. Ghana beating Equatorial Guinea is not very hard to imagine - I'd say there's a 50/50 chance of that happening. Also, the possibility of Cameroon not beating Algeria is not such a long shot. Algeria has lost both their matches by only 1 goal so far and will be looking to end the tournament on a high.

In saying that, I would expect Cameroon to go through, with either them or South Africa qualifying with Nigeria for the World Cup.

    Half time scores:

    Ghana 1:1 Equatorial Guinea
    Algeria 0:0 Cameroon

Both goals in the Ghana-Equatorial Guinea match came from penalties.

As things stand, Cameroon would win the group and Equatorial Guinea would place second.

Things are hotting up now! Cameroon took the lead on 50', Algeria equalised 5 minutes later. Both games now at 1-1 with 35 minutes to play......

And Equatorial Guinea take the lead on the hour mark!

As things stand, Equatorial Guinea will meet South Africa, and Nigeria will meet Cameroon in the semi-finals......

EDIT: Scratch that - Cameroon take the lead again: CAM 2-1 ALG, EQG 2-1 GHA

    Semi-finals as they stand:
    Nigeria v Equatorial Guinea
    South Africa v Cameroon

And Equatorial Guinea score again - 3-1! Ghana look to be heading out of the competition, and Equatorial Guinea now lead the group on goal difference...

If Ghana score they have to draw lots for first/second?

Must be nearly over now anyway...
