Re: Eiji Kawashima's Thread [R] http://www.sanspo.com/soccer/news/110608/scc1106080503001-n1.htm From yesterday, but Kawashima said he will decide by mid-June.
Re: Eiji Kawashima's Thread [R] Even though he would start as second choice, I think he would impressed enough to play. once he get settled in.
Re: Eiji Kawashima's Thread [R] As a West Brom fan (who happens to be in Japan at the moment) I would love to have Kawashima come to the Albion. From the many times I've seen him with the Japanese NT both during and since the World Cup, I have no doubt he could replace the slightly inconsistent Scott Carson as our first choice keeper. He might face some competition from our Welsh keeper Boaz Myhill, but as long as we don't bring in other keepers (WBA had been looking at bringing Tomasz Kuszczak back to the club from Man Utd), I think Roy Hodgson would eventually go with Kawashima as our Number 1. One thing that Kawashima should be aware of... our defence hasn't been strong. West Brom had very few clean sheets last season despite finishing mid-table. Part of that was our goalkeeping, but much of it was because of poor defending, which we must also improve. No doubt if Kawashima becomes our first choice keeper, he'll be kept quite busy against other Premier League teams.
Re: Eiji Kawashima's Thread [R] Considering he has only been a starting player since the England match last may, I don't think he gets an automatic permit (he's played 19ish games in the last 2 years from June 31st, so he falls about 5 games short of the 75% quota). I wouldn't know what channels and crap with permits West Brom would have to go through to get him to the UK. It'd be nice to see Kawashima to to the EPL. Though, it takes a fair hit to playing form and reputation to knock off the captain out of the starting lineup.
Re: Eiji Kawashima's Thread [R] Ah... didn't realise that. That's including the Asian Cup and the Kirin Cup friendlies as well, right? And if Japan hadn't pulled out of Copa America, he could've been at least three games closer. We'll see what happens. It seems we are targeting other keepers as well, so it may be the case of whose signature we can secure first. By the way, Carson WAS our club captain until last January, when our now ex-manager Roberto di Matteo replaced him with midfielder Chris Brunt.
Re: Eiji Kawashima's Thread [R] Only the WC finals and the Asian Cup finals plus respective qualifiers are the competitive "A matches" relevant for UK work permit. If I am correct Kawashima played 11 out of 14 (after June 2009) so he passes the 75%.
Re: Eiji Kawashima's Thread [R] One of the reasons Kawashima's talks with Albion may have stalled are that he stated he wants to be certain he has a good chance to be the number one keeper. I stated above that from what I know, I think he'd be a better choice than Carson or Myhill, but that's only my personal opinion. Perhaps Hodgson cannot guarantee Kawashima the number 1 shirt, or perhaps it may be dependent on if other clubs make a move for Carson, thus making it easier for Kawashima to be our top keeper.
Re: Eiji Kawashima's Thread [R] Yeah. Damnit. If he plays 20 games I think it's a good start for him and he gets plenty of games to really show he is worth the nr 1 spot.
Re: Eiji Kawashima's Thread [R] Well, we all can understand that he won't settle to be second. He's the JNT top gk, being second choice at WBA will obviously affect his chances to play on the National team having no regular games to play. But, I thought he said he'd risk being second choice.
Re: Eiji Kawashima's Thread [R] He shouldn't settle for being second choice. Kawashima should stay/go to a place where he will be starting almost all the matches. I don't want him to be a bench warmer. So if West Brom cannot guarantee a starting position for Kawashima I don't think he should go.
Re: Eiji Kawashima's Thread [R] Well I agree, but his current situation isn't ideal either. He can't spare conceading 3/4 goals each game any longer, he's only staining his record. It's a risky move but it's worth taking IMO. No worries about NT if he isn't fit, Nishikawa and Sugeno are excellent alternatives.
Re: Eiji Kawashima's Thread [R] I don't think so,Kawashima said that he said concrete facts of his contract and deal to west brom till the end of the month in every Interview. So in 2-3 weeks we know more.

Re: Eiji Kawashima's Thread [R] If Carson does go, we still have to see who Hodgson brings in. Besides Kawashima, Albion have been linked with one of our former keepers, Man United's Tomasz Kuszczak ... and there may be another name I've not heard. West Brom will begin training for the new season very soon. They have friendlies scheduled on the West Coast of the USA in mid-July (where I would be if I didn't have work obligations here in Japan...), so I imagine they would want to bring in any potential new keepers in sooner than later.
