The new format will feature 24 teams in total.
4 clubs fromMexico, 4 clubs from the USA, 2 clubs from Costa Rica, 2 clubs from El Salvador, 2 clubs from Guatemala, 2 clubs from Honduras, 2 clubs from Panam, 1 club from Nicaraugua, 1 club from Belize, 3 clubs, qualifying via the CFU championships.
The four teams qualifying from the United States are the two MLS Cup finalists, winner of the MLS Supporters' Shield(best regular season record), winner of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
Should the same team qualify multiple times and/or should a Canadian team occupy one or more of the MLS qualifying places, then the American MLS team(s) with the best regular season records not otherwise qualified will be entered.

Can anyone update besides NCC, who is qualifying from each country/zone? Thanx.

Pretty confident Municipal (GUA) has qualified for 2011-12. They play Comunicaciones in the Clausura final, but Comunicaciones won the Apertura, so they're already in, and Municipal is first in the aggregate table. So, it seems like they're in.

Does it matter who is GUA #1 or GUA #2?

Guatemala 1 will be whoever wins the Clausura, I would assume. If Comunicaciones wins it, they'll have won both seasons, and if Municipal does, they'll win the tie-breaker for most points. Being #1 puts whoever into the group stages though, so it's a big deal.

Also, according to the CFU Championship thread, Tempete advanced past Caledonia AIA on penalty kicks to get to the semifinals, which makes the final four:

Puerto Rico Islanders (PUR)/Walking Bout Company (SUR)
    Defence Force (TRI)
    Alpha United (GUY)
    Tempete (HAI)

Meaning that we will officially have at least one new Caribbean country represented in the 2011-12 CCL. If Walking Bout somehow gets past Puerto Rico, we'll have at least two.

I wonder if Tempete or Alpha can meet the stadium requirements. Guyana is hosting the CFU finals so maybe Alpha can do it.

the FMF semifinals are Guadalajara/Pumas and Cruz Azul/Morelia. I want Pumas to win their series but not sure about the other. It would be nice to have a team that has not yet participated in the CCL era but then again I want to see the legend reach 50 goals in the CCL;)

Definitely pulling for Chivas and Cruz Azul. Pumas has the coolest shirts in the Western Hemisphere, but I want to see a "big-name" club in the CCL from Mexico. I was really hoping America would get through...alas.

An FMF final Chivas/America would have been legendary. And having those 2 teams in the CCL can only be great for the CCL, but oh well for another time.

of course if chivas do qualify for the CCL. the attendance will go down because no more than 10 people will show up at the Omnilife for games....maybe 30 people if chivas reach the final :D

The final leg is going to be played tomorrow, and if the score holds up, Olimpia will again be crowned champs of Honduras and make yet another appearance in the CCL.

I guess by the end of the month we will know all the teams in the tourney. The qualifiers and automatics. I thought the reason El Salvador didn't get an automatic berth last year was because of FIFA troubles. I think their automatic berth was and will be restored this year. As a Galaxy fan I am following the Mexican tournement with great interest. I am hoping for a Pumas-Morellia final. Because the other two teams have very very large fan bases in LA. Only a Caribean or Candian or Panamanian team will we not have a large visitor fan base in HDC.:)

Alianza Futbol Club are the new champions of El Salvador, winning today's final with a scoreline of 2-1.

Alianza and Metapan will represent El Salvador at the next CCL.

    MOTAGUA

    :D:cool:

Real Espana and Motagua will represent Honduras in the CCL. and if we get the 3rd spot, Olimpia would earn it, due to being in both, Clausura and Apertura finals.

Thats incorrect their was a final group which had all four teams (they played six matches will progress to the final)
the two teams thta qualified were Walter ferreti and Real Esteli

they just played the first leg of the grand final and Walter ferreti won 1-0 thanks to own goal by real esteli defender salvdor garcia

the second leg will be played on saturday, if walter ferreti can score an way goal they will be able to win the title

and as they won the clausura previously they will earn nicaragua berth to the champions league
