    Amen.
    Underappreciated genius, he is.
I would love to see the stats on how many NT matches Endo and Ono played together... very few, I would guess. And right there is a key reason Japan's golden generation fell short of the heights it could have achieved.

congrats on shutting down the Arabs. They were below average this WC qualification. There AFC performance is terribad. I'd say they are the 2nd worst team in the tournament in front of India. They seriously need to do something about this. Former Middle East powerhouse should do a lot better.

The smaller AFC nations have really stepped up there game this year. GL on your knock off rounds.

Kashiwagi and Ono seem to be polar opposites, mentally. Ono came back from Europe much steelier and wilier. Kashiwagi gets intimidated very easily and seemed to give away a free kick every time he went near a Saudi today. Overall I don't know if Kashiwagi will ever grow into a player I would describe as "authoritative".

I did not watch the game, but was it the case of Japan playing good or Saudi playing bad?

    Uchida after the game.

The guy is still young, he turned 23 a month ago and today's game was only his 2 nd cap with seniors.

I hope that does not bite Japan back in QF. But then again, as Uchida said, Japanese are sincere so it might not effect them.

Motivation is probably the last thing we need to worry about.

troll or are you being serious?

If you're serious, he was rested against Saudi, obviously he's still in the tournament and If his condition worsens, probably not. We haven't had any news to confirm yes or no.

Sometimes a poster comes along so bizarre he transcends mere trollness.
I'm guessing this guy is one of them.

It's too bad Honda takes the penalties for Japan now. Endo's slow roll PKs were amazing in their simplicity and ballsiness.

Not that we can watch the Asian Cup in the US, but still.

Why is Honda taking the penalties though, it clearly isn't a strength of his? even when he scored during the Paraguay shooting at the WC, it was such a soft shot that would have easily been saved if the keeper didn't guess wrongly.

yeah, it was kind of funny though- he shot it, paused for a sec if it got in the net and then when it did he went all ecstatic.

Honda was doing sprints after the game, while his team-mates were interviewed.

    He seemed mostly OK.

Yeah, I saw him sprinting after the game, as I was in the stadium, and there were almost a dozen of Japanese fans cheering him.

Penalties are weird though because the goalkeepers will try to read the guy and try to figure out where the ball is going to go. The penalty taker will try to throw them off by looking/shaping to kick the ball somewhere else. It's difficult to coordinate all that convincingly. Honda's PK was pretty horrible and nearly got saved, but you can't argue with the results. If goalkeepers start figuring him out and saving them, then it would probably be the time to find someone else, though even then I'd think hard about it. Honda seems to have just the right temperament for penalties because he seems to have confidence enough that a miss wouldn't faze him too much.

I don't think anybody's worried he'll be fazed if he misses, we're worried Japan will lose if he misses!
