Re: (01.13.11) AFC Asian Cup: Syria vs. Japan [R] Hmm, NHK is just reviewing the game now and they show without a shadow of a doubt that it was the Syrian player playing the ball, and it doesn't look like it ever touched a Japanese player. So, clearly offside (which is what I thought when I was watching it). But anyway, as everyone has already said, it was a defensive disaster from Japan anyway. Don't think that the current line-up with Maeda up front is working out all that well, so wondering what alternatives the head coach is thinking of...
Re: (01.13.11) AFC Asian Cup: Syria vs. Japan [R] I agree with both of you, but it is also true that to play, especially vs a certain kind of teams, would be easier if valid goals would be conceded and red cards won't be invented...
Re: (01.13.11) AFC Asian Cup: Syria vs. Japan [R] 3-6-1 Gonda Inoha, Yoshida, Konno Uchida, Endo, Hasebe, Nagatomo Honda, Kagawa MAEDA (yes)
Re: (01.13.11) AFC Asian Cup: Syria vs. Japan [R] Gosh, it seems that I missed a hell of a 2nd half. However, on the last pages there was talk about how Japan or East Asia is represented in the Fifa Executive Committee. Since Ogura lost his post prior to the tournament too, there is exactly zero representative from East Asia in the committee. Check this out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA_Executive_Committee
Re: (01.13.11) AFC Asian Cup: Syria vs. Japan [R] If Nagatomo improves his crossing ability it would be a good formation Nearly all good moves in the Syria match were from right side
Re: (01.13.11) AFC Asian Cup: Syria vs. Japan [R] Why Gonda? Just curious. Don't know much about him.
Re: (01.13.11) AFC Asian Cup: Syria vs. Japan [R] Thats true but we are still getting results good enough to get to where we want to go. Sign of a good team?
Re: (01.13.11) AFC Asian Cup: Syria vs. Japan [R] Gonda for me is more consistant. More of a Narazaki instead of Kawaguchi. Saku, you're a fan of 3 in the back? I would also start Maeda as well unless Zac plays Honda there.
Re: (01.13.11) AFC Asian Cup: Syria vs. Japan [R] Gonda is just better. I don't know what Nishikawa is doing here. Nothing against the guy really but he did too many mistakes last season to be considered as one of the three best japanese GK. nsato > Not really, I'm just looking for a way to use Honda and Kagawa at their full potential. With this formation, they would be free to go where they want and could combine with everybody and create chances. I've given up on the idea of goals coming from our striker. We need to find some other ways to put that ball in. Just wanted to say the referee of Australia - South Korea, who is from Qatar, made a great job. I'm being patronized when I say I don't believe in a great scheme fomented by the West Asian countries to hurt us (still, it's necessary to be represented in the FIFA).
Re: (01.13.11) AFC Asian Cup: Syria vs. Japan [R] Why not just start Honda up front then? I don't follow the national team that closely, but he looked decent during the WC playing up top by himself.
Re: (01.13.11) AFC Asian Cup: Syria vs. Japan [R] What strikes me about that page, is that half of the members of that committee don't even have enough information in the public domain for someone to create a biography page for them. Apparently nobody knows anything about these characters that can be committed to record, yet these are the people running World football? At the very least, Chuck Blazer's page should redirect to Dr Hank McCoy.
Re: (01.13.11) AFC Asian Cup: Syria vs. Japan [R] Speak about transparency, the FIFA doesn't even care about actualizing their own site regarding this body. http://www.fifa.com/aboutfifa/federation/bodies/exco.html That's why I posted the Wiki-link.
Re: (01.13.11) AFC Asian Cup: Syria vs. Japan [R] http://www.sanspo.com/soccer/news/110115/scc1101150505008-n1.htm This is quite embarrassing... The appeal against Kawashima's red card had to be made within 2 hrs after the game, and Hara was not aware of this rule. Now it is just a "notice" to the AFC with no chance to get through.
Re: (01.13.11) AFC Asian Cup: Syria vs. Japan [R] An "appeal" is more than just lifting their hands and saying "hey that's bs". It requires evidence from videos and testimonies from players/linesman maybe, plus forms filled which they probably would have to get from somewhere else so for the AFC to give 2 hours to complete that sort of case is ridiculous.
Re: (01.13.11) AFC Asian Cup: Syria vs. Japan [R] 「こうやって抗議をするのは、あなたのため。決勝トーナメントでレフェリーできませんよ」 What Hasebe said to the ref. He chose his words really well.
Re: (01.13.11) AFC Asian Cup: Syria vs. Japan [R] The same thing actually happened to Kuwait when they issued an official complaint about the Aussie Ref, and they have only passed the 2-hours deadline by 30 minutes. Translation anyone ?
Re: (01.13.11) AFC Asian Cup: Syria vs. Japan [R] Maybe the AFC seriously thinks that international teams should have an army of lawyers and PR specialists on retainer in order to draft a proper appeal in under two hours. Besides isn't this kind of rule entirely unproductive? It would seem logical that they should impose a cooling-off period instead, to reduce the chance of frivolous appeals. Once again the AFC makes no sense. My Japanese isn't that good but Google suggests to me that he meant "the best appeal I can make to you, is to hope that you are not the referee in the final". Apologies if that is wrong.
Re: (01.13.11) AFC Asian Cup: Syria vs. Japan [R] I'm protesting for your sake. You're not going to be able to ref in the knockout stage if this stands. Really intelligent from Hasebe imo.
Re: (01.13.11) AFC Asian Cup: Syria vs. Japan [R] Google translate has some way to go though. For the record what it said was "This way to protest is for you. I can not referee in a tournament final." Of course he's totally correct though. These guys are going to do the walk of shame for sure.
Re: (01.13.11) AFC Asian Cup: Syria vs. Japan [R] Maybe. I would have loved if, after the initial protest which is spontaneous and emotional, he let it go. The referee won't come back on his decision. Show that you can accept this fact. But whatever.
Re: (01.13.11) AFC Asian Cup: Syria vs. Japan [R] Perhaps this was his problem - that he couldn't admit to himself that he made a mistake in the face of disagreement from his assistant, who quickly fell into line with him when he realised the central ref was determined to give a penalty. Inability to recognise personal weakness or realise mistakes is a fatal flaw in a football referee. This is not the same as "selling" difficult decisions, just recognising that the mistake is major and you shouldn't just try to pass it off. Too many referees are obsessed with looking like the big man I think. This is often Yoshida's downfall for example.
