I never expect too much for AFCC 2011

How can you be positive when you have to play backup centre backs who have rarely co-played before instead of your first choices(bomber tulio) who are out for injuries?

I can't remind such a team that did well in tournaments

Re: (01.09.11) AFC Asian Cup: Japan vs. Jordan [R]

Alright just got back from the game, very disappointed like everyone here.

First thing was that Matsui & Yoshida were fricken crap, Matsui in particular was a liability all game. Yoshida somewhat made up for that with his goal, good on him. Difference with Yoshida is that he's only played 2 games. Honda to me didn't play with much urgency and conditions aren't an excuse they were perfect this afternoon.

Endo (huge fan of his) seemed to be playing too 'slowly' for the modern JNT if that makes sense. Nagatomo was very good, Konno did well, Kagawa had a few golden chances and didn't convert.

Okazaki needs to start, nuff said.

I would rather see Nagai, Hirayama or even Haraguchi out there.

Lee Tadanari, to be honest, has no future in JNT

That's an overstatement. He was very very very good at Sanfrecce this past half-season.

    Remember that was his DEBUT!

He is horrible, but I think we cant totally blame on him. and he should relieve with the injury time equaliser. Mentally, it is also good for the team

I think that the next match should be much better.

I think that Kagawa and Honda should take the majority of the blame. They've created HUGE expectations and obviously failed to meet them.

I agree, only reason hes there is because of Morimotos injury, and cause he scored a few goals towards the end of the season, if not for Morimotos injury he would be only watching from the T.V. and not from the bench, I just dont think hes anything special

Syria leading Saudi Arabia 1-0 at half time. This might just be a replay of japan-jordan.

Not surprised by this result. The squad choice is woeful, another Italian manager who chooses the wrong players a tournament... sounds familiar

I suppose we can just hope that this game is rather the result of

    a) No warm-up friendlies
    b) The fact that our last game against a West Asian team was in March against Bahrain.

Jordan is tough opponent for Japan as they were in last time.
Hopefuly it will be good wake-up call.

I am more disappointed by the performance of Honda than Kagawa. Every time Shinji had the ball, he was cornered by 2, 3 Jordanian players, sometimes even more, I bet he never played against such a defensive team in his life.

Anti-football paid off today, would have been horrible if Japan had lost to a team who couldn't align 3 passes in midfield.

Face it! Japan should've won it. They were dominant throughout. Too many opportunities missed. Should have been Japan 2, Jordan 0.

I think results would have been totally different, if the first phantom goal was not called offside. However, that is football.

Japan has no one to blame but themselves for not scoring early.

I didn't see the replay was it offside? I mean it looked offside but detail is in the replay as always.

I think Japan had many many chances so they should get out this group easy unless some major bad luck happens.

With my little kanji knowledge the 6.0 players : Yoshida, Hasebe and Okazaki, quite accurate.
The 5.5 (better side here) : Kawashima, Uchida, Honda and Maeda, again I agree.
    5.0 for the others

I like those ratings(don't understand any bits of the comments), maybe too harsh for Konno and Nagatomo

Re: (01.09.11) AFC Asian Cup: Japan vs. Jordan [R]

I'll give it a shot, why not.

Kawashima - 5.5 - Wishes he could get back that unlucky goal
Konno - 5.0 - Switching to his marks was an issue
Yoshida - 6.0 - Showed great presence with equalizing goal
Uchida - 5.5 - Expecations are high for him to raise his attacking profile
Nagatomo - 5.0 - Needs to finish more effectively
Hasebe - 6.0 - Created rhythms with his mid-ranged shooting
Endo - 5.0 - Weak defending allowed the opposing goal
Matsui - 5.0 - Needs to improve dribbling towards the goal
Okazaki - 6.0 - Successfully changed the rhythm of the game
Honda - 5.5 - His usually-successful free kicks failed to hit the mark
Fujimoto - X - no grade due to limited time
Kagawa - 5.0 - Wasted his many scoring opportunities with ineffective shooting
Maeda - 5.5 - If only he'd converted in the early stages...
Lee - 5.0 - One painful miss after another

No, it was the same result as 2004 Asia Cup.
