Both the regional champions, Haiti & Costa Rica, had shaky starts in the beginning series but I think both teams will regain their necessary players missing in action and "step their game up". I predict Haiti & Costa Rica will make it out of group C

    GO HAITI!!!

If Haiti can find someone to score they will be tough.

Haiti will be reenforced big time. 50% of the team will be different and we will have someone to score. Haiti and Costa Rica will go through, but wont be easy. El Salavador is hard to beat and i'm sure Suriname is better than most people think.

Right now I'd go with Costa Rica and Haiti, but El Salvador's come back win over Panama showed me they have the drive. I wouldn't be surprised if they squeezed into the Hex.

There might not be a weaker group this late in the history of CONCACAF.

Costa Rica easily to go through, then Haiti or El Sal will fight it out for 2nd, but Haiti performance against the Antilles left something to be desired.

You only have to look at the last cycle to see the worst group in the history of world cup qualifying.

    Mexico
    T/T
    St. Vincenet/Gren
    St. Kitts/Nevis

Mexico advanced with something like a +30 goal differential or something ridiculous.

This is an impossible group to predict, because not only did it feature two round one winners upsetting their bye-to-round-two opponents, but the other two looked shaky as well. I don't think any of us know enough about Suriname at least to have a decent opinion on them.

One thing for sure, they may not put up a fight against Haiti as hard as they will against El Salvador (A psychological advantage that Haitians will be counting on).

Some may say well the Netherlands did put up a fight against Haiti. That's wrong. Haiti failed to win big not because the N-A was strong and tenacious but mostly because Haiti is currently playing far below its real strenght.

Costa Rica has more depth than both Haiti and ES. Thus, I give Costa Rica the edge. The 2nd place is up for grab between Haiti and ES and with Suriname in the group, Haiti may have a slight advantage over ES.

    Re: 2010 WCQ: Group C: CR-ES-Hai-Sur

Costa Rica has been strong for too long for all of the sudden fall off completely. I think they will take the 1st spot.

I honestly don't know much about Haiti and a damn thing about Surinam... But if El Salvador continues to improve, and show huevos like they did last night, I think they will make a decent run at the 2nd spot.

CR and ES are my picks.

    Costa Rica - 16 pts
    El Salvador - 8 pts
    Haiti - 7 pts
    Suriname - 2 pts

    Re: 2010 WCQ: Group C: CR-ES-Hai-Sur

What we do know about Suriname is that since the government won't let expatriates to Holland play for the team, that the team is mostly domestic players and Suriname's domestic teams haven't been anything close to a factor in CONCACAF for over 20 years. According to a write-up at FIFA the team is also very young, meaning that most of the players wouldn't even be able to remember a time when Suriname was a factor.

This group is a gift from the gods to Costa Rica, because we are terrible right now.

We always get the death group but this time we got the easier one, and that should give us time to regroup.

It's funny because i would say the same thing about Haiti's current situation. Before this World Cup campaign we have always gotten the rough schedules. I just hope they take advantage of this opportunity.

This is a very interesting group, very fun to watch.
the way I look at it's CR 1st and haiti and el sal. battling
    for 2nd.
What will make it interesting is el sal. might have some
problems with a big physical suriname team, and haiti will
be more apt to handle them. But in the same token haiti
might have some trouble with a organized technical CR
and el sal. will have a better time with them. so it could
come down to the head to head.

    Re: 2010 WCQ: Group C: CR-ES-Hai-Sur

    Puh-lease.

    1998 Group 2 (scroll down).

Canada, El Salvador, Panama and Cuba.

The winning teams from this group, Canada and El Salvador, finished next-to-last and last in the hex.

At least last year the 'pathetic' group had Mexico. In '98 the best two teams in Group 2 were just a waste of space in the hex.

If Costa Rica can't get its act together, Group C will almost certainly surpass 1998's laughable Group 2.

BTW, I'm not slagging off on current El Salvador (or the Savadorenos in here:)). It looks like they may be under a resurgence. But in '98? Not that I watch that closely, but it seems like they were pretty sad 10 years ago.

Both El Salvador and Costarica will get smashed in Haiti and at home. Get ready to face what i see coming for you.

El Salvador is the easiest and weakest Team in this group.

a key statistic is Haiti's strong recent record against los ticos in San Jose

Haiti 1:1 Costa Rica (October 2007)*
Haiti 1:1 Costa Rica (Gold Cup 2007)
Haiti 3:3 Costa Rica (December 2005)*

*= Match played in San Jose, Costa Rica
