I gotta say, Columbus winning might make it easier for FCD to make the CCL next year...

Plus, they're our sister club.... :D

If the US still gets four slots for next year's tourney then Seattle is right, if we only get three, then Columbus is.

I don't know anything special. This is just what I think.

Adrian Hanauer seemed to indicate what you're saying when speaking yesterday on the MLS "Extra Time Radio" show. He made it sound like only a change to the CCL format (i.e. reduction in US slots) would stop the US Open Cup from meaning qualification.

I believe the verbatim quote was that he said he was "99% sure" the winner would get a CCL spot.

Sorry again Eurosnobs stop being so delusional, or High. the US OPEN CUP IS NOT A CHAMPIONSHIP, THERE IS ONLY ONE. THAT IS THE MLS CUP, THE REST IS JUST TOURNEMENTS!! they are nice and cute but they really have no signifigance in winning the league title. basically and Candyland Fantasy!

Just watched the highlights. What an atmosphere.

Seriously, it's too bad that y'all didn't have that energy for the CCL. Hopefully you'll bring it next year.

Congratulations. First ever MLS team to defend the Cup.

That's interesting. I was in 135 w/the Barra Brava when played the Charleston Battery in the final of the 2008 Open Cup and it damn sure felt like we were winning something. I guess we were wrong.

Well I think I can speak for the 300 plus Battery fans that were there that night that it sure felt like we had loss something!

and aren't MLS playoffs just a "Tournament" in itself?

Last night match was great to watch. well done to Seattle. If Charleston would have won in 2008 that would have been Alsonso third USOC title in three years.

But in the MLS playing for a Playoff spot and gunning for the MLS Cup is just the more ultimate in being a competitor, there is nothing like it, whats the since in playing in a tourney that practically a given and a consolation at best, yea the smaller teams like the Charleston Battery it might be alil more important, because obviously they are in a small Market. But still I dont see the point of playing the Open Cup during the regular season, move it to the post season before the MLS Playoffs!!!

During a season, earning playoff spot and winning MLS Cup after that is one of the goals as well as winning SS, USOC, and CCL(if playing).

You see football is multi-dimensional sport unlike other American sports.
Clubs around the world juggle among various goals for the situation and condition at a given time, and as you get multiple tiles, you get more recognition. Like 09-10 Barcelona that won League, Cup, UECL, and CWC!

American Sports are Multi demensional, most sports you win your division or conference or at least qualify for the playoffs, and at that point unlike europe you have a shot to win the league title.... In the NFL you win your division or wildcard, then your conference(NFC/AFC) then the Super Bowl, to Be a prestigious Champion.. so yeah you could be like the Atlanta, braves for example and win 14 straight NL east titles(1 world series title in 1995) and your still crap when it comes to prestige because youll be known as the teams that could never win the big one. You dont have that in europe. You barely have that in MLS, too many eurosnobs want MLS to fail. by trying to reinstitute the Meaning of winning the league Championship which is the MLS Cup. Basically pretty much every year in american sports you have doubles and triples evry year.:)
