The Lions currently lead the Thai 1-0 with an Aleksandar Duric goal from a Shaiful Esah corner.

If the result stay, it mean S'pore return back to second in the group and a spot in the Asian Cup Finals.

The destiny of the qualifiers will then depend on S'pore results itself and not other results elsewhere.

Singapore: Hassan Sunny, Precious Emuejeraye, Baihakki Khaizan, Daniel Bennett, Shaiful Esah, Ridhuan Muhammad , Hariss Harun, Mustafic Fahrudin (Noh Rahman), Shahril Ishak, Khairul Amri, Aleksandar Duric

    3) Gombak is poised to overtake Tanjong Pagar into 7th-place next season.
    4) Albirex just need 6 more points to overtake Jurong into 10th-place.
    5) Super Reds finally have more wins than losses all-time.

    http://sleagueplayer.blogspot.com/

The idea of this blog is to give information on players who may not qualified (in my POV) for Hall of Fame at the main blog at S-league: Facts and Figures yet they cannot be forgotten as they have given their efforts in building up the S-league.

Also by having a separate blog, it will be easier for the viewers to search for the players they wishes to view as one can break them up at the links.

The players at the Hall of Fame will also be appearing here and in the main blog.

However, for the players not in the Hall of Fame, there be no writeup on their history in the S-league but stats like appearances and goals will be given

Basically, nothing much have changed here, other than:

    1) DPMM would have moved above all the other "one-seaon" teams.
    2) DPMM would have also shot up to 3rd-place in the table base on PPG, [IMG]
    3) Geylang would became the team that played the most number of league games (391).
    4) Balestier would became the only original team (since 1996) with a PPG of less than 1.000.
    5) Most teams would have had a lower PPG as compared to the DPMM-less table, except for Home United and... Sengkang!! [IMG]

    Last POV for the year

Time to replicate 2009 SEA Games

With Singapore youngest ever football side achieving an impressive feat of bronze in the SEA Games, it is now time to look beyond that and I am not talking about the next SEA Games but beyond that as well (Unless one believed the Mayan calendar and the world is ending in 2012 so no need to think)

The truth is in Asia, there are hardly any competitive tournament like the European U21 championship qualifiers etc to develop the lads in the crucial years in the U18-U23 age bracket.

Just a recollection of my blog entries of the recent SEA Games, which saw the Cubs retained the bronze in some topsy-turvy fashion..

14 years down the road what had we achieved?

“Below-average moderate” as I am to grade the overall achievement for the league.

Yes, it provides a chance for any budding footballer to earn a livelihood out of kicking a ball around, also ample of jobs in coaching and club administration, etc.

Despite the constant proclamation as “one of the top 10 leagues in Asia”, it's not hard to see that there's a lot to be done to overcome some teething issues bugging the league.

As someone resident in the UK, and having not been to Singapore for two years, I may not be best placed to comment on the league. But I am not going to let that stop me!

The lack of a community base to the S-League has always been a hinderence to it increasing its support. Only six of the eleven clubs that finished the season have a geographical reference (within Singapore) in their name, but I have never seen any evidence that these six are trying to garner a relationship within their locality. It also appears to me that there is little in the way of rivalary between the residents of the different townships around the island.

In England, the rivalary between say, Liverpool and Manchester, or Sunderland and Newcastle has a long term tradition and goes far beyond football. Tampines v Geylang?
Still, creating some localised events, appearances at shopping centres, childrens training sessions, etc., can produce some connection with the local communities.

My experience in Singapore suggests that people do not have a strong connection to the townships, but see themselves primarily as Singaporeans.

The admission this season of DPMM should have been a breath of fresh air. I wonder if the FAS did all they could do to hold on to them, or whether they were unhappy at the prospect of the 'foreigners' being in the top three? I am even more dissapointed that they do not appear to be given every chance to resolve the problems in time for next season. For those matches I saw figures, the attendances in Brunei far outstripped those in Singapore, and there is also the possibility they are more in line with the actual numbers within the stadium. (The figures being consistent with my only trip to Brunei).

I take it as read, that there is a still a major discrepancy between the crowd figures released for Singaporean league games, and the actual numbers in the stadiums, thanks to the large numbers of tickets issued to the sponsors but not used.

FIFA's decision to demand a five year residency rule puts a spoke in the plans to improve the national team with imported players - so the FAS will have to improve youth coaching if the national team is to keep competing with its local rivals, let alone improve its ratings in international terms. This coaching has to start at the very youngest of age groups. The FAS has to see that the S-League clubs are the basis of this coaching, in order to achieve the joint purpose of improving status both nationally and internationally.

The national team and the visiting Omani squad kicked start their two-game friendly series with a 0-0 draw at the refurbished Bishan Stadium.

Just like any prep game for bigger match that follows, it was used a platform for some experimental play and fine-tuning of some issues that coach Raddy would like to remedy who is also facing some problem such as the absence of Arema Malang striker Noh Alam Shah and Home United's Shi Jiayi, both are still on the casualty list.
