Note, these numbers are skewed from MLSnet as MLSnet is using an attendance of 0 for the latest Dallas game where I am using an attendance of 8623 found in a press release by a Big Soccer member. Hi Chad, I don't have them. In thinking about it, I think posting them will lead to some issues as people will automatically try and compare this years AAQ to all others but it is not an apples to apples comparison. You can't compare an AAQs based on 13 years with one based on 14 years. When we get to 100% of games played, I will post AAQ numbers for all 14 seasons (which will give an apples to apples comparison).
Rank Rank Rank Rank Year Average Median %<10K %>20k AAQ 1996 1 1 6 1 2.25 1997 11 11 8 10 10.00 1998 13 14 10 13 12.50 1999 12 8 13 11 11.00 2000 14 12 14 14 13.50 2001 9 7 9 8 8.25 2002 5 6 4 9 6.00 2003 10 5 7 6 7.00 2004 6 9 11 4 7.50 2005 8 13 12 11 11.00 2006 7 10 5 7 7.25 2007 3 3 1 2 2.25 2008 2 2 2 3 2.25 2009 4 4 3 5 4.00 Using Andy's numbers from above, this would be the current AAQs. The final AAQ for each year would change slightly if the average for the 2009 season were to dip below the 2004 and 2006 seasons.
Perhaps FCD will have more than it's 9k average today with the Mexico - Colombia doubleheader back at the Cotton Bowl.
Code: 2007 16367 14818 8.8% 25.7% 2008 16463 15118 11.4% 25.4% 2009 15656 14479 16.2% 19.2% For the longest time, the numbers for this year were eerily similar to 2007. It appears that those days are over. But it's a good reminder of just how solid the numbers were in 2007. This season has an AAQ of 4, but it is pretty poor compared to 2007.
My way to look at these numbers is actually to compare this year with 2006, and the pre-Beckham bump. Looking at that, we have a better ratio of >20k matches to <10k matches, a higher average, and a significantly higher median. Given the economy this year, I'd say it's been hugely positive for MLS to get these numbers. With Philly next year, an expanded BMO, a (likely expanded) Qwest, and Red Bull Arena, I definitely think we'll see these numbers go up a lot in 2010.
The home total of FCD is correct, but it is for 1w games, not 13. There is a mistake on MLSNET's stats page. If 8623 is the attendance of the last game, add it to 111734. The average attendance over 13 games is already above 9000.
The World Cup is a bit of a wild card. The break MLS is taking will mean more games on sub-optimal days. OTOH, the league might be able to bring in a couple of Beckham-Ljungberg types, famous Euros who aren't going to figure for international play anymore. One thing...Philly's capacity is under 20K, isn't it? If my memory is correct, then Philly is going to hurt the >20K stats. Well, unless traveling support to NY and DC pops those matches over 20K.
When I was referring to Philly, I meant the average and median, though if their away support is as good as I expect, you're right, it could push matches in DC and NY over 20,000.
Not really. The number of weekend dates missed then will be no greater than the number of weekends teams are forced to sit this year due to the odd number of teams. It just concentrates them in June rather than spreading them out one team per weekend.
I was looking forward to the Wizards not having the lowest attendance this year, and we were on our way to accomplishing that, as Dallas avg. attendance was lowers than ours. But then they announced this game at the Cotton Bowl. Oh well, there's always next year.
Don't feel so bad, I reckon KC has got a lot more respect these days but FCD is in the toilet. PS(posted to make the KC guy feel better and not to piss of FCD fans)
I doubt you can piss off the FCD fans any more than they already are. And their anger is quite squarely pointed at their front office, and not any other fans. But I'm just one of them, and probably shouldn't speak for the rest.
