OK, I'll try to run this, or if anyone else wants to give it a go, take it.

I'm thinking of using the system where you assign points (in this case, 16 to 1) for each game of the round, where the team you most think is going to win gets "16" (and if that team does win, you get 16 points), to the team that you think is least likely to win gets "1".

    So:

Round 1 (Tuesday, June 10, 16 matches): points would go from 16 to 1.
Round 2 (Tuesday, June 24, 8 matches): points would go from 16 to 2 by two's.
Round 3 (Tuesday, July 1, 8 matches): same
Round 4 (Tuesday, July 8, 4 matches): points would go from 16 to 4 by four's.
Round 5 (Tuesday, August 12, 2 matches): points would be 16 and 8.
    Round 6 (Tuesday, August 26, 1 match): 16 points.

    I'm also thinking of:
    (a) partial points for a game that goes to PK's, which technically is a draw, so maybe picking a winner in this round would get you 0.8 of the your point value, while picking the loser would get you 0.2
    (b) multiplying the base points by the round, so in effect R1 would be (16 to 1), R2 would be (32 to 4), R3 would be (48 to 6), etc
    (c) bonus points for picking upsets (where a lower-division team defeats a higher-division team)

But I also have to keep in mind how to manage this in a spreadsheet. So these are just thoughts.

Sounds good to me. Thanks for taking this on.

I'm fond of "A", but not necessarily "C." Keep it simple. That being said, here are my picks:

    Carolina
    Real MD
    Fredericksburg
    Western Mass
    Pittsburgh
    Michigan
    Minnesota
    Rochester
    Austin
    Charleston
    Charlotte
    Miami
    Seattle
    Harrisburg City
    LA Legends
    Portland

TruthCom, you have to assign a point value to each game, from 16 to 1, so your predictions should look like:

    Carolina (12 points)
    Real MD (9)
    Fredericksburg (1)
    Western Mass (7)
    Pittsburgh (16)
    Michigan (3)
    ...

Where in this case, you say that Pitssburgh is most likely to win, while Fredericksburg is the least likely to win.

(But then again, it might get too difficult to track 100+ poeple, predicting 16 games, with point values.... We'll see.)

I don't agree with that, each prediction should count for the same amount of points.

How about just picking the team that advances?

I guess I owe my own picks, if I am going to be running this. Since everyone didn't want the "rate-the-games-1-to-16," we're not doing that.

Although this will be kind of a dud if only five of us participate.

    Brooklyn Knights (PDL)
    Real Maryland Monarchs (USL-2)
    Richmond Kickers (USL-2)
    Western Mass Pioneers (USL-2)
    AAC Eagles (USASA)
    Michigan Bucks (PDL)
    St. Louis Lions (PDL)
    RWB Adria (USASA)
    Austin Aztex (PDL)
    Charleston Battery (USL-1)
    Clearwater Galactics (USASA)
    Bradenton Academics (PDL)
    Seattle Sounders (USL-1)
    Yakima Reds (PDL)
    Crystal Palace Baltimore (USL-2)
    Portland Timbers (USL-1)

The simplest way to score it is just picking the winners; and with 1 left to be played...

I get the same numbers, JimCo, so I guess my spreadsheet is validated.

Also, I guess I am relegated after the first round, with the low score. Shows what I get for predicting upsets.

I would like to introduce another player to the game. Player "Composite" chooses whichever team was picked most in each matchup. Composite is 11-4 with one to play.

To read this listing, "Brooklyn:Carolina (3:8) 1" means that three people chose Brooklyn and eight chose Carolina, with a "1" at the end if the prediction was right, "0" if wrong, and "-2" for TBD.

(Congrats to all of us for correctly picking Charleston, and 10-for-11 with both Richmond and Charlotte. Our biggest miss was Michigan with 10 of us getting that wrong; only GIO got that one.)

(And, opal, I am usually involved in the TV taping at each Bucks game, so I can't sit with the Herd. Last Tuesday I was doing the game announcing from the press box. Usually, I just tape the game with my single camera from the stands. Keep watching the CMN web site to see when it is broadcast; the Michigan-West Virginia game [the stadium's opener] is currently on the broadcast schedule. http://www.cmntv.org/saturday.html )

    Brooklyn:Carolina (3:8) 1
    NYPancFree:RMaryland (3:8) -2
    Fred'burg:Richmond (1:10) 1
    BostonOly:WMass (4:7) 1

    Clearwater:Charlotte (1:10) 1
    Bradenton:Miami (4:7) 1
