Re: 2008 Rowdies Colors/Jersey/Logo thread Well, I did a logo as well (http://i30.tinypic.com/2pphssh.jpg), but contrary to you I don't have hard feelings about the logo they actually went with. Looking at other suggestions - like yours - I am really glad that they went with something simple and timeless, and not with some superdooper creative comic style logo. Their logo has lots of references to the team's tradition (founding date, soccer ball, hoops like on the sleeves and a NASL championship star) and still doesn't look overloaded, which I think is a real good accomplishment!!! I don't think it is "uninspired" or cheap looking at all, I think it is mature. That said, I like Sport Billy's compromise by including the old wordmark - then, the logo would be just perfect!

Overall the logo is fine, and I like the references to the Rowdies tradition and history, but it's precisely for that reason that the generic font in "Rowdies" doesn't sit that well - close, but not quite close enough to what they should have done. That generic font sitting there is like a plain pebble set in a fancy gold ring; the gold ring is nice, but it should have a diamond set in it, not a pebble. I agree...but make the shield a little taller so you can put in the traditional "Rowdies" wordmark without cutting off the bottom like it is in Sport Billy's example. Lengthen the sides of the shield so that there's some green space between the bottom of the "Rowdies" wordmark and the top of the first yellow stripe.

Re: 2008 Rowdies Colors/Jersey/Logo thread not bad. i always like the look that umbro shirts have. i like these models for possible looks. a white shirt like this would be nice, only make it with green and yellow instead of blue and red. a green or yellow shirt based this would be nice, just not as fluorescent. and if there will be a navy thrid, this would be perfect.
Re: 2008 Rowdies Colors/Jersey/Logo thread Not bad, but the shorts should be white to match the shirt (sans sleeves), and vice versa (ie always keep the shirt sans sleeves and the shorts the same color). When you've got the green and yellow hooped socks and sleeves thing a-goin' on, you don't need to play mix and match with the shirt (sans sleeves) and the shorts. (yes I know I'm nit-picking)

Re: 2008 Rowdies Colors/Jersey/Logo thread I would like to see a serious attempt at designing an iconic kit for the 21st century Rowdies. One that the club would stick to and build a brand identity in the community like the original one did. For the primary kit I believe a diagonally halved shirt, ala Monaco in France, with Green and White being the two colors, paired with white shorts and as nod to the classic kit, green and gold hooped socks. The second kit should feature a solid gold shirt with green trim, green shorts, and the classic socks. I think if the primary kit was used in all cases except a color conflict, we could see a brand association start to form. One last nod to tradition is that the numerals on the kits should be in the classic font.
Re: 2008 Rowdies Colors/Jersey/Logo thread What about these? I am a Sounder fan from the NASL days. The Rowdies were one of my favorite teams. Rodney Marsh and Mark Lindsey were two of my favorites. I think they had some of the best kits and branding in the league. I hope you guys could find a way do kits that look like the above with the hoop socks and all. : ) "Soccer is a Kick in the Grass!"
Re: 2008 Rowdies Colors/Jersey/Logo thread I agree, make it some variation of the classic original (green and yellow hooped socks and sleeves)...with the new crest over the heart in place of the wordmark. There's plenty of ways to retain the classic look while making changes. Clubs that respect their history do this: Manchester United, Arsenal, Boca Juniors, etc. They have a classic look that is retained over the long term, even though changes come and go.
