Did everyone catch where Pres. Nestor said that there is a thin layer of Navy on the outside of the logo so that it would work with their 3rd jersey?

    Thats awesome! ;)

In my honest opinion, that is one singularly uninspired logo. Talk about a missed opportunity.

The font is so generic as to make the overall logo resemble a piece of cut-and-paste Clip-Art. Further, with the founding date and soccer ball being so small the Rowdies ought to line-up a Lasik Surgery Center as the team's presenting sponsor.

If team ownership/management paid more than... oh, I don't know... NOTHING... for this logo, they were taken for a ride.

Let's hope the uniforms are good.

A bit of a tribute to the Mutiny, you think?

I agree. I'm slightly disappointed with this rather uninspired logo, but it isn't that bad and we can live with it. The important thing is that the Rowdies are back, and that they are acknowledging their past and their history.

Also, we can still buy "classic" Rowdies gear, if this is information below is correct, so it's not like the old logo is gone forever:

So there's that. And who knows, down the road the Rowdies may want to rebrand a bit and I could see the old logo/wordmark making a reappearance, incorporated into this new logo. I'm only mildly disappointed with the new logo; the positives of getting the Rowdies back far outweigh any of my own nitpickings.

    Re: 2008 Rowdies Colors/Jersey/Logo thread

Yes, I agree, this is my reaction too. I doubt the new owners paid much for this logo, but at least it has the right name and color scheme! The Rowdies are back, and that is the important thing. The classic logo/wordmark/font can still make a comeback in the future: rebranding happens often enough in sports, and who knows if the Rowdies make it to MLS a rebranding will almost be mandatory. Apart from the generic font the logo isn't bad and it wouldn't be hard to incorporate the classic Rowdies font into it at a later date.

Wow, that's some serious collecting and research. I remember many of these variations, including the "Rodney" shirt, but I've never heard of or seen the 4th of July red white and blue Rowdies shirt before.

Was there ever a yellow Rowdies kit? Like the one you usually see Ralph Rowdie (Rowdie Ralph, whatever ) wearing? It would have made for a nice third kit, after the white and the green:

You wouldn't need to if you did a little reorganization up top. Try moving the date down to under the arc in the Rowdies and shift Tampa Bay and Rowdies up until the text and bars don't overlap. After that, you ought to be able to enlarge the Rowdies until it fills the crest.

Failure to include the original, classic 'Rowdies' font, ie, the one true Rowdies wordmark: Check.

Completely generic, bland, and anonymous font: Check.

I appreciate all of the right things that the new owners have done so far, and you are right to point these things out (though one nitpick: this ain't a "traditional" soccer badge, it's a contemporary/modernistic soccer badge).

On the whole the new owners are on the right track, but we do have a right to be disappointed in the new badge. It's not an own goal, but it's not a hat-trick, either.

The logo isn't that bad except for the font. I'm sure you guys can persuade them to change it.

oh great. the team doesn't start for like 2 years and there's already people complaining about them. it's plain, but that's what makes it great in my opinion.:)

What do you expect? We don't have anything else to talk about! :)
No, it's plain, which is what makes it "meh". Not awful, but not great, either.

    <yawn>

Honestly, they paid someone for that? really??

The logo's designed and posted here on Big Soccer are far superior.

IF that one was the winner... just how awfull were the other 19?

Yours is clearly the minority opinion, but I doubt they will change it, and frankly since they've gone to the trouble to officially announce it, they should not change it so soon after announcing it. It would make them look indecisive to flip flop. Plenty of time to modify the design in future as the club grows/changes.

I love the idea of them including the Navy Blue color.

I am ok with the new design, most important to me is how the kits turn out.

I wont buy any Green so hope they have enough Yellow and Blue kits, shirts etc etc.

    Re: 2008 Rowdies Colors/Jersey/Logo thread

Wow. I can't believe they went with this. At least they should have used the old wordmark. I bet they didn't pay much for this, if anything. Hell, I would have given them my design(http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/1668/tbrowdiesuslcq2.gif) for free. In fact, I e-mailed them with my design a few months back(on suggestion from this very thread) and offered it up for free. I can understand being low on resources, but using a totally uninspired design like this is awful. There are plenty of graphic artists out there just getting into the field(myself included) that would kill to design a pro team's logo, even for nothing but recognition.

Not that I expect a pro franchise to work with a single graphic designer with little experience, but when they don't and they come out with crap like this, it's disheartening knowing there are thousands of people out there with great ideas and skills that go unused in favor of something like this. This would be exhibit B of such a situation, while exhibit A is the OKC Thunder NBA team, who recently unveiled the WORST logo I think I've ever seen, after stealing a team with a proud history and great identity from Seattle. Again, I'm not taking it personally, but as a someone who got into the graphic design field because I grew up drawing sports logos, it's painful to see lameness of this magnitude unveiled when there are alternatives. Now I have more of a reason to root against you guys when MFC plays the Rowdies in 2010 :D.

Wow that logo is lame. It looks amateurish. Just plain boring. With that logo and with supporters called Fannies, it's going to make away games fun in 2010. I'm happy.
