Except that I believe the trademark on that particular wordmark is now held by the folks who do section219.com, so it may not be an option at all.

    I don't believe that's the case anymore.

If I'm not mistaken, section219.com is owned and operated by C. S. Anderson Enterprises of Dallas, Texas. United States Patent and Trademark Office records indicate that while C. S. Anderson successfully registered Tampa Bay Rowdies on August 26, 2003, Citrus Sports Group, LLC - ownership group of the new USL-1 Rowdies - is the "Last Listed Owner" of said trademark. It would appear that Messrs. Nestor, Howard, Laxer, MacDonald and Trimble struck a deal to secure the Rowdies trademark rights for their new franchise.

Further, USPTO records show that a Michael Connell of Lutz, Florida was the last person to register the original Rowdies' familiar wordmark for trademark protection. He did so on April 26, 2004. The rights to said trademark were abandoned on May 7, 2005. USPTO records show that trademark protection for said wordmark is now "DEAD". As a result, if Citrus Sports Group, LLC wants to use the traditional Rowdies wordmark, it would appear that they can procure it.

It will be interesting to see just what they do in terms of developing the franchise's branding. The press release accompanying the announcement of the franchise's entry into USL-1 stated that "the familiar logo, which featured Ralph Rowdie, is currently being fine-tuned". Whether said fine-tuning means a complete abandonment of all of the elements of the old logo, or a relatively minor "tweaking" remains to be seen.

    * For the record, this is just another option. It is not a third jersey as any third jersey should be a "conflict" jersey and thus contain different colors.

I like the idea of those. The idea of the stripes along the side like that is innovative yet an homage to the past. Nice.

In my opinion, they might as well start printing up the 1st one with the White and Side Stripes. That is pure quality, great mesh of modernity and heritage... Good work Sport Billy. I'll take mine in a Medium please and a Small for the Mrs...:D

What do we do with regard to scarfs? I mean, this is Florida... it would look somewhat silly. Do we have some sort of equivalent?

I would say you should make them even in Florida. Fans here in Miami have asked for them, so we are getting these made. Some people feel that it makes you look like a real supporters club. No matter, if people ask for them I think you should have them made.

Regarding the idea of scarves ... they need not be worn only for cold weather.

If made of the proper material, they can serve the same use as a bandana (used in the hot arid regions of the Southwest).

I've seen Brazilians wear scarves in the summer of the World Cup ... all it takes is imagination how to wear them.

I agree. The scarves are not exclusive to cold-weather areas. The Texian Army has been selling the scarves down here in Houston almost from the beginning, and they sell pretty well.

I wore my España scarf here in the Tampa Bay area for the Euro, and It was fine for me.

I would love to get a Rowdies scarf, and I already have my number and name ready for my customized jersey whenever they go on sale

    Re: 2008 Rowdies Colors/Jersey/Logo thread

    Quoted for truth!

I'm in 100% agreement with each of your points.

I understand the need for shirt sponsors, so shrinking the classic Rowdies wordmark into a smaller logo and moving it up over the heart (like a classic football club crest) is fine. If you put the wordmark inside a shield or whatever, also fine, though maybe not necessary. But don't mess with the font of the Rowdies wordmark itself. A lot of thought went into that wordmark and font, and this is one case where we don't need to reinvent the wheel or fix something that ain't broke. Change for change's sake is silly.

Also the green and yellow hooped socks and sleeves are important to keep, along with the white, yellow, and green color scheme. There's no other football club in the world with that distinctive yet classic look; it 'belongs' to the Rowdies in the same way that the red shirts with white sleeves look 'belongs' to Arsenal.

The stuff people have posted in this thread is okay, but mostly interesting as efforts to show off their photoshop skills, IMO, and not something the new Rowdies ownership should take too seriously. There will be some variation over the years ahead but I hope the Rowdies keep their classic 'look' constantly in mind and do not stray too far from it.

Well several fans here in the Rowdies board were actually part of the new ownership's branding efforts.

So in effect, several ppl here have already seen what the "logo/shield/color-scheme" is going to be.

I was on one of the meetings. The classic font was talked about especially from those of us that were around for the old days. We should just remember that the team not only needs us to support them but a they need to build a new fan base as well. I left the meeting knowing one thing for sure. SOCCER and the ROWDIES are back.

    YES!!!!

I don't think it's that bad, but it would be better if the would have kept the original typeface.

Eliminate the top bar and increase the typeface size.
