MLS has announced that the 2007 MLS Cup will be in Washington, DC on November 18, 2007. I know it's a little far out at this point in the calendar, but I think this will be a great opportunity for us MLS fans in the Philly area to band together and make the trip down to RFK for the event. It's not a terribly long trip from Philly to DC, I've done it three times within the past two months myself. An important factor--we could also use the trip to show our support for MLS expanding to Philly.

I'm just throwing this idea out there for all on this board. Would any of you be interested in this?

My wise and I would be interested. But it depends on whether my son's HS team has a game that day.

That's a fantastic friggin idea... what are you like 1-2, at most 3hrs from DC... You should get a huge contingent of like 3K+ together (those who would be willing to become season ticker purchasers), rent a bunch of busses, and go together all wearing the same outfit... like philly eagles jerseys... that ought to stand-out... carrying numerous signs... when are you coming to Philly?

in fact Philly is exactly where MLS Cup should be... for that very purpose... right in between DC and NY... with BOS not far away... and a huge population of soccer fans (and developed players, including convey, olsen, allbright, etc. who I am sure all have people in the area that would like to attend) to try and drum up support for a local ownership group...

Heck, I'd even be up going down and pretending as a phony Philly fan to help you guys get a contingent up into the thousands... what a way to make a statement that would be...

Not sure if this would help promote a team in Philly, but what about travelling to Giants Stadium this summer for the Gold Cup games?

I think this trip would be a great thing. If it starts to get organized, please keep us all updated, as I would be willing to go.

LOL, now THAT'S funny. C'mon Ethan, stop joking around... Crew and RSL??? ;)

But in all seriousness, and Bryan you may be able to back me up on this... I think it may sting a little bit watching someone else win the cup on our pitch. I don't think I'd be able to enjoy myself.

Up to the thousands would be a logistical nightmare. Besides, without some way of getting the word out beyond BigSoccer, we'll be lucky to get a hundred.

Still, a hundred fans wearing Eagles jerseys and singing Philadelphia songs would make an impression, I'm sure.

I'm in... Assuming DCU isn't playing in the Final, in which case I'll be with the Barra.

When the time approaches, we can use the PhillySoccer.com email list, which is large, to promote this.

I can promise a large group... Anywhere between 10-15 people in my personal social circle that regularly go with me to DCU games, and are all for Philadelphia MLS.

So, if we get ten people to each bring nine people (Friends, family, co-workers, hostages, lost foreign tourists, etc) that's a good start. Can you imagine a group of 100-150 Philly supporters wearing "We're all SoB's!" t-shirts, waving flags, and making a big show of things on national television at this game?

I can see it now.... It looks glorious!

    Alright, I've changed my mind.

I'll still go if United aren't in it... and I'll sit with you guys.

I think a strong showing will do alot for our cause... We could use it as a bargining chip of sorts -- "Look how many people show up when there ISN'T a team! Look at how passionate we are! Better bring us a team soon!"

Yeah, I agree. I will just have to sit (stand?) with the Barra if United's in the game. I'm sure you understand.
