Pachuca's participation in this years Copa Sudamericana as defending champs opened a new slot to a MFL club. Guadalajara got a slot by losing the CONCACAF Champions Cup. The remaining slot will be given the the team that acquired the most points throughout the regular season (Apertura 2006 and Clausura 2007). Total points = Ape2006 + Clu2007 Club 62 = 26 + 36 Pachuca (defending Sudamericana champion) 59 = 29 + 30 America 58 = 30 + 28 Cruz Azul 57 = 26 + 31 Guadalajara (Concaaf Champions Cup runnerup) 49 = 27 + 22 Atlas 48 = 29 + 19 UNAM 46 = 27 + 19 Monterrey 43 = 27 + 16 Toluca There is one more matchday in this season and as you can see, the race is real close. Cruz Azul and America are fighting for that last slot. America has the edge with one point. America plays Monarcas at Morelia Cruz Azul plays Santos at Torreon --------------------------------------------------------- It is odd that Mediotiempo just posted an article about this on yesterday. I am starting to wonder how long this was known and if the FMF knew if Pachuca would be able to compete the following editions tournament as defending champs. I wouldnt put it past CONMEBOL to not follow those rules. Its not like we have ever been told of rules 24 hours before a game is played. I am not trying to jump the gun here, but if it was known, the FMF should have scheduled both of those teams matches on the same date (and hour). ----------------------------------------- Apparently, a lot of Cruz Azul players did not even know what was at stake. I am ssuming that America's camp was the same.

Re: 2007 0fficial Mexico's Copa Sudamerica Thread: General Discussion According to Esto, Mizrahi found out about it last week. http://www.oem.com.mx/esto/notas/n256622.htm
Re: 2007 0fficial Mexico's Copa Sudamerica Thread: General Discussion Aside from Morelia fighting for a playoff spot and Santos fighting for their lives in the first division, these games take on muh more meaning as far as I am concerned. I love the fact that the team with the most points throughout a regular season (both tournaments combined) has the opportunity to play in the Sudamericana Cup. I hope that this method is used more in the future.
Re: 2007 0fficial Mexico's Copa Sudamerica Thread: General Discussion Indeed! im for it too and in fact that crap tournament of "Interliga" should also be eliminated and they should find a similar system in which our teams qualify for Libertadores. I'm fine with allowing the #1 Libertadores slot to the Campeon de Campeones champion but I feel those 2 should qualify automatically and should just decide Mexico 1 and Mexico 2 from this game alone and then just give the 3rd slot to a team based on season total pts or any other factor but not doing it the Interliga way anymore.
Re: 2007 0fficial Mexico's Copa Sudamerica Thread: General Discussion So is it confirmied now that the two lost? I somehow think Cruz Azul will complain and be allowed in since the haven't had any international competition in a while. They were complaining about the interliga last year when they weren't even scheduled to compete in it anyway.
Re: 2007 0fficial Mexico's Copa Sudamerica Thread: General Discussion Copa Sudamericana starts today Audax Italiano vs Jorge Wilstermann is on right now.
Re: 2007 0fficial Mexico's Copa Sudamerica Thread: General Discussion FT Audax Italiano 2-0 Jorge Wilstermann
I'm starting to loose interest into this Conmebol competitions as it seems the FMF teams loose interest as the competition winds down. I only give Pachuca the benefit of the doubt. Why even bother participating ?
So there has been a Mexican finalist the last two years and last year 2 of the semifinalists were from Mexico. Not sure how this equals loosing interest.
Referring to the whole Conmebol competitons as a whole . This was referring more towards Libertadores . Mexican teams need to start taking Libertadores more seriously as that is the highest tournament to win in Conmebol and not so much Sudamericana, but thats another subject.
