Can USL-1 survive in South Florida? Does this mean anything when it comes to the future of MLS in Miami? ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Perhaps a year earlier than most thought it might happen...it looks like the "Ft. Lauderdale/Miami Strikers" may well come back from the great beyond and join the USL First Division in 2006. The USL league meetings are being held this weekend (Oct. 28-31) and some word has leaked out. While not MLS expansion news directly, indirectly this is news to fans of the former MLS Fusion. Not sure when this rumor will be verified or shot to flames.
Re: Buzz growing: Miami in USL, 2006? Not to rain on any parades (especially mine), but Lockhart suffered some significant damage from Hurricane Wilma. I believe I heard 4 of the 6 major light towers were down... Let's hope for a quick fix and return of those bumblebee jerseys...and Ray Hudson of course.
Re: Buzz growing: Miami in USL, 2006? PR Islander fans would LOOOOOOOOVE to see that. I believe it could make for a nice rivalry.
Re: Buzz growing: Miami in USL, 2006? This is great if it happens, but I thought Rogers and Hudson were involved with the Strikers return to Lockhart? Whats with these Brazillians investors I keep hearing about for this new team? Also if they are in Lockhart, then its not Miami.
Re: Buzz growing: Miami in USL, 2006? Rhinos GM says it's in Miami at a small stadium where they host some youth tournament.
Re: Buzz growing: Miami in USL, 2006? Hialeah stadium? http://www.ci.hialeah.fl.us/dept/rec/parks/rental.htm#TED_HENDRICKS_STADIUM
Re: Buzz growing: Miami in USL, 2006? It will be at Lockhart, once it happens. Rodgers was running the Umbro select out of there, he knows the venue. Strikers away from of Lockhart makes no sense, and the "old timers" followers are still around, and the bulk of them are in PB county, and Ft Lauderdale. Plus, Real is going to Miami in the next couple years. All the rumors the articles point in that direction. Also a venue is needed that can make money from premier friendlies, and internationals that will bring 10-20 k to a game, and Lockhart has been the place. Contrary to some of the general knowledge here, Lockhart had far more games in the past couple years than the OB. It is a regular stop for many international clubs, and national sides. For the club to have a healthy bottom line it needs Lockhart. The Sunrise Hilton soccer complex is minutes away, and that also, is part of the whole picture ! Besides, Hudson also lives only minutes away.
Re: Buzz growing: Miami in USL, 2006? Hmm...Drew_VT said on another thread that on the radio this weekend they confirmed that the team will play either in Miami or Hialeah. So no Ft Lauderdale/Lockhart pro soccer until Rodgers/Hudson get it going maybe in 2007. Sorry.

Re: Buzz growing: Miami in USL, 2006? Does Ken Horowitz not still have some sort of control of Lockhart Stadium as well as an option for an MLS team?
Re: Buzz growing: Miami in USL, 2006? Any Miami area football fans interested in starting a supporters section for the new club ? Nothing like standing together with some diehard football fans.
Re: Buzz growing: Miami in USL, 2006? I am not a Miami resident (Central Florida actually), but I am game for weekend matches!
Re: Buzz growing: Miami in USL, 2006? if they want to make this work, they'll need teams in Orlando and Tampa because of the driving distance. Imagaine a division with PRIslanders, Miami, Ajax, Tampa, Atlanta and the Battery.
Re: Buzz growing: Miami in USL, 2006? The Thunder seem to be doing well, and they are about 1000 miles away from the nearest competition. So I think this will work. But if they can bring more teams (esp. Tampa and Orlando), please do!
Miami Football Supporters..... Calling all south/central Florida football fans...... We finally have the real pro football back in the sunshine state. Let's use this thread to start to get to know each other all over again. Some of us like myself have stood up and supported some Fusion matches, or some Mutiny games, maybe even some PDL or old skool NASL action....no matter what your scenerio is , the bottom line is pro football is back and we need to do our best to embrace it. Sound off on your thoughts and ideas for the new club ... The Miami FC club team will need some great support and with the local footy scene in the Miami area, there's no doubt that the new club will have a diverse and passionate following. If Lauderdale gets a club team, then my allegance has to go to them but for now let's help Miami put some concrete in their boots and keep them around for awhile. A few names for the supporters group..... LMS Firm (LMS -Last Man Standing) Hialeah Hooligans Dade County Firm Biscayne Boyz 49th St. Crew ... Ted H stadium is on 49th st. Miami Malitia
Re: Miami Football Supporters..... Sounds great Jredknapp11. As for names, I propose we wait to hear what the team's name will be. That would help us narrow the list. I know when they formed Real Salt Lake it helped the fans there specify their supporters group name(s). For now it could just simply be MFS (Miami Futbol Supporters). Also, please sign up on this thread so we know who is really interested in be a Miami soccer supporter.
Re: Miami Football Supporters..... Well, I'll be doing it a bit from afar, though I'll hopefully be covering (shooting) the team for matchnight. We need good coverage! Though I've always been a fan of the Tampa Bay teams (Rowdies, Mutiny) and always hated the S. FL teams (all of them), I have to say, since it's the only pro team in FL, I've got to support them!
